Hi all, please take a look if you get a chance! :'D

Wigs & Wefted Extensions (Styled and unstyled)

Item: SSJ2 Gohan Wig
Series: Dragon Ball Z
Description: Worn once for Otakon 2009 (Pictured here). Wig colour is 613 Blonde with faint airbrushing of yellow for spike definition. Built over a 3D frame of EZ felt, it defies gravity easily and only needs a bit of hairspray to keep everything sharp and defined without getting crushed. I love this wig but I've never gotten a chance to wear it again.
Asking Price: $80
Shipping: $25.00 within Canada, $35.00 to USA, $37.50 International

Item: Punky Wig - Black/Teal mix
Series: N/A
Description: Originally, we ordered a punky wig in Dark Blue, but we got a defective wig ^^;. This is a strange colour mix of black and teal.
Asking Price: $27
Shipping: $8.00 within Canada, $9.00 to USA, $12.50 International

Item: 24" Wefted Silver Extensions
Description: Extensions from Cosworx, colour is Silver.
Asking Price: $5.00
Shipping: $3.00 within Canada, $4.00 to USA, $6.50 International

Cosplay Garments & Shoes

Item: Casual Akane Tendo Outfit
Series: Ranma 1/2
Description: Clothing originally bought and modified to cosplay THIS Akane Tendo outfit. I never got around to buying a proper wig for my Akane cosplays, so I never wore it.
(Displayed with a petticoat, petticoat not included)
Sizes: 36"-26"-36" Fits loosely around the hips.
Asking Price: $35.00
Shipping: $13.00 within Canada, $15.00 to USA, $25.50 International

Cosplay Props & Plushies

DISCOUNTED ITEM
Item: Chibitalia Life Size Plush Doll
Series: Axis Powers Hetalia
Description: Chibitalia is made from excellent quality fabrics and felts. The lower skirts and 'panties' are FULLY removable. Posable arms and comes with open eyes for a change of look. Hair is an actual North Italy wig that was too small for me to put my long & thick hair under. Wig can be removed and worn for cosplay if so desired! This was super cute to carry as my prop when I wore North Italy, but it's perfect for a whole bunch of other charcters as well!
Asking Price: $150.00
Shipping: $25.00 within Canada, $35.00 to USA, $37.50 International

Item: Red Umbrella
Series: Ranma 1/2, & others
Description: Red Chinese umbrella. Originally used as a prop for a Ryouga Hibiki cosplay. Umbrella was originally floral patterned. Spray painted with waterproof red paint. A few cracks, but still very nice.
Asking Price: $15.00
Shipping: $15.00 within Canada, $20.00 to USA, $35.50 International

Item: Son Goku's Nyoibo / Power Pole
Series: Dragon Ball Z
Description: This is a cardboard prop originally made for my cosplay as young Son Goku, however Adult Goku also carries this in the early episodes of DBZ. I did not want to carry a huge staff, so I made a prop of the staff in it's sheathed state. No parts are movable, it is strictly one piece. Pictured here
Asking Price: $20.00
Shipping: $15.00 within Canada, $20.00 to USA, $35.50 International

Mariah, Kenny, and Hilary Beyblade Plushies
Series: Beyblade G Revolution
Description: Hand-made plushies featuring characters from the 3rd season of Beyblade. Made from felt and polyfill. (Blurred out plushies have been sold and aren't available).
Asking Price: $10/each
Shipping: $5.00 within Canada, $6.00 to USA, $7.50 International

Fur

Item: Brown Fur
Description: A very nice rich coloured brown fur. It was used to make Saiyan tails for a Saiyan group, and for young Son Goku. The fur itself has large grooves running through the length of the piece which was perfect for measuring strips, but because of them I would recommend for long thin tails or use in just small patches.
Size: 13" x 49"
Asking Price: $12.00
Shipping: $5.00 within Canada, $10.00 to USA, $15.50 International

Item: Black Fur
Description: Gorgeous black fur! The pile is very, very soft. Never used for anything, it's just been stockpiled.
Size: 31" x 38"
Asking Price: $18.00
Shipping: $8.00 within Canada, $10.00 to USA, $14.50 International

Item: Blue/White Fur
Description: Very short pile fur. Backed with some sort of thin foam. Was bought with the intention of using it for a Neko Majin cosplay. It's a very interesting colour. Photographs icy blue in some light, and muted light blue in others. Never got around to using it!
Size: 41" x 57"
Asking Price: $10.00
Shipping: $12.00 within Canada, $16.00 to USA, $20.50 International

Item: Black/Gray Fur
Description: Very short pile fur. Bought for making decorative pillows, but never got around to it. Very soft and interesting! Looks dark in one direction, and very silvery in the other.
Size: 60" x 60"
Asking Price: $20.00
Shipping: $12.00 within Canada, $16.00 to USA, $20.50 International

SO.. I return. It's been awhile, I can't believe it's been so long since my last entry, time always flies by so damn fast this time of year.

Work and family health issues have cropped up since last entry, but those are always things best kept private, and not expounded upon at length. I have recently had it pointed out to me that I don't seem real because I lack any kind of real life posts, but... honestly;... I rarely want my personal thoughts on real-life things to be up for dissection. Really saves me the trouble of my perspective offending somebody (as it usually always does).......

Anyway:

<3

Firstly, I have holiday cards drawn and little gifts ready and sparkly~*~*~*, but I just haven't gotten the chance to pack and mail them OTL;;!! *fails* I'll definitely be getting everything out once Canada Post opens up again (fffuck;), so.. just know... I'm so sorry if I told you I was sending something and you didn't get it. Nobody has gotten anything yet from me <_>;;;

Much love to jiyoon, _anatra_, and glayish this year ;_;! So lucky to have such amazing friends like you <3!! My whole Holiday Gift list got filled just by them alone. So SO much love. Can't wait to work on more Nyotalia North Italy and Gohan wig over the break!!!

<3

DTAC (December Toronto Anime Con) happened, and DBTrio attended like we have almost every year since Hobby Star started it. The Saturday before, _anatra_, glayish, jiyoon and I got together downtown with the intent of getting more photographs of our Gakuen Hetalia Axis Powers cosplays (originally worn at Anime Central 2011)!

We missed getting the photos that day though, because of intense hunger winning out XD;;
Ate lots and hung out and had lots of fun together. Next morning we got up really early and threw on Gakuen outfits to grab photos before DTAC. We ran over to the U of T campus and jiyoon snapped some shots of all three of us together!

THOSE PANTS!!!! OTL. It was FREEZING COLD outside, but we can finally not wear these unflattering plaid pants ever again. My wig is fried beyond anything. I can't even count the number of times I've worn it. Italy is officially my most worn character/costume. I haven't even worn Gohan that much OTL XD;;

Anyway, directly after that we all changed into Yu-Gi-Oh! for the con itself. I wore Yugi, glayish wore Joey, and _anatra_ wore Kaiba.

Here's a pic SutekiGo took of us!

Still waiting to get the pics off _anatra_'s cam for edit... what few photos we actually DID get, that is. The MTCC security were full of shit. Even just last year the event wasn't run so awfully. There have been many accurate rants already written about the crap that went on at DTAC, so I'll leave out my own rant. But honestly the only things that made it worth getting into costume and going were meeting up with SutekiGo's Erin, Lindy, and Lisa, as well as Andrew and Jess who we met earlier this year at MTAC.

We all left the con and had a great time hanging out together at Jack Astor's then later at Tim Horton's until after midnight XD.

Can't wait for our Silent Restricted Section party. Which, will need to be planned asap. *gets on it!*

In fandom news, I've totally gone on a Star Trek binge. The J.J. Abrams reboot got a sequel greenlit and it should be something epic. At least, y'know, I want it to be...

The first one was awesome (cause seriously budget and effects like THAT on a Trek movie?? Hell yes!), but it was definitely not completely Trek. I'm looking, hopefully, for a return of Star Trek's penchant for politically and socially forward storylines, as well as that hardcore sci-fi (topped off with some existentialism)! (Some true Kirk/Spock relationship would be nice too come on, that's the original SLASH. The one that started it all., though Shatner and Nimoy (Shatnoy) did it best)

I never fully appreciated the movie fandom (other than puella_nerdii and mithrigil's hot and intelligent Kirk/Spock fic)... but by now there's a whole lot to look at @_@!

THANK YOU shadowtwinz!!!!!! I received the card and the Deathly Hallows journal in the mail!!!!! ;_;!!!! You're so amazing, thank you thank you for that!!! Also I got the Eric Stuart autograph FINALLY @_@ *kills Canada post* <3333!!!

and THANK YOU didgeridoodle!!!!!!! OTL ;_;!!!!!! for the $25.00 for the blue contact lenses!! I'll be getting a pair for this con season. OTL!! You are my favourite person ever!!

So glayish and I recently added Katsucon to our con roster! Thanks to Rock nam Lee and his gf we'll be driving down together and rooming at the Gaylord hotel with them!

Potential Costumes
* Amelia wil tesla Seyruun (with glayish as Zelgadiss)

Gonna TRY to get this done! Finally need to stop pushing it back...

* Zane Truesdale (or) Atticus Rhodes (with glayish as Alexis Rhodes)

Been meaning to cosplay more YGO GX! Though I don't have the GX dueldisk haha OTL.

I'm thinking we'll do either one or the other to cosplay as a pair... it's just getting so hard to choose tag teams OTL.

* Young Son Gohan

So I've been saying I'd cosplay this version of Gohan for YEARS. I've had an XL punky wig saved up and stored for ages just to do this. This is so damn easy I just never got around to it OTL. Anyway I've got the wig in progress! So this should be done simply. I'll wear it to bum around in alone unless I end up bringing something else to cosplay with somebody.

* Nyotalia North Italy

Hell lol, can't convince glayish or _anatra_ to cosplay Nyotalia with me XD;; They've cosplayed more than enough Hetalia already to pander to me lmao; OTL.

Really just have to figure out what to finish;;;

Anyway it'd be nice to see people on the East Coast U.S.A. again, considering Otakon was kind of immensely fail for meeting up.

Totally missed the Toronto Cosplay Skating get together this past Saturday (lol sleep schedule is fucked from staying up till 5am), but managed to get downtown for some Japanese food with SutekiGo, Aerialdown, Iggyboo, LiquidCocaine-Photography, and Kaiser-Mony! We did some quick karaoke afterward then went home. The weather in Toronto has been beautiful considering it's January o_0!

In other news, made it to Season 3 of Star Trek: The Original Series (and got the Star Trek movies on Blu-Ray for boxing week), so I'm plowing through yesteryear. It's funny, the Star Trek (2009) J.J. Abrams movie (AND ITS SEQUEL WHICH BEGINS FILMING THIS WEEK) is what made me want to watch ST: TOS in the first place.... (I grew up with The Next Generation, DS9, and Voyager) .... but the MORE I watch the original, the LESS I like what was done with the script and especially Spock in the rebooted movie. They fucked up his character so bad. Even though the actor Zachary Quinto looked the part and did a great job, it just seems like it was way too much to change for Spock. seriously? giving Spock romantic interludes with Uhura? Ruins the whole classic McCoy vs Spock banter on feelings. Not to mention there was a serious lack of a political and socially just message for humanity. A lot of action and amazing scenes, but, it's not Star Trek: TOS unless there is some kind of allegory for the current political discourse.

>:U ffff.

Anyway, I also started watching the BBC series Sherlock. WHY? Because my Tumblr dash has been full of Sherlock since I got it, and Benedict Cumberbatch (Sherlock) is cast as a lead in the Star Trek rebooted movie sequel. I had to see what was going on with that... and wow LOL. I didn't realise that all the .gifs and slashy quotes were actually REAL. Not that I'm slashing indiscriminately until I watch more, but I can see why it's gotten so popular.

TBH I never watched Sherlock because I disliked the Sherlock Holmes movie starring Robert Downey Jr. & Jude Law. But I'm liking the BBC television series, if only because it's not steam-punk theme'd.

Katsucon 2012

SO back from Katsucon and finally about to write about it.

Sometime in January, glayish and I got invited to Katsucon with Rock nam Lee (Mike) and his girlfriend Alex.

We got 4 people in a car and 4 people in a hotel room for $200/each so that was AMAZING considering what we ended up paying last year.

We started out on Thursday morning from North York and the ride down was fun- WAY better than being on Megabus has been last year (despite the fact that we missed out on a trip with most of the other Canadians going). Turns out Mike and I have the exact same taste in music (honestly the playlists were uncanny) :'D

We arrived at the Gaylord Hotel around 8:30pm in the evening and as soon as we pulled up, Kaiser-Mony and Andrew (Aerialdown) walked up o___0. LOL. How ironic the first people we encounter (even before a bellhop) when we arrive 500km+ from Toronto, are our friends from Toronto. XD;

Actually the Canadian flocking was unavoidable as we ran into stillvisions, and Jess while waiting as well~!

We got settled into our room, which ended up being cheaper because it was a handicapped room LOLLLLLLLL;;; Mike was sure the hotel staff had seen my Hetalia Italian flag and knew we were 'speshcial'..... OTL (The only thing different with the room was how low the beds were so it was a great idea XD)

We were starved so all four of us went to the bar & grill to eat dinner. Really American food does taste better and it's half the price of the typical restaurants up here.

Went back to the hotel, and got in contact with Ex-Shadow and his wife Malindachan who had arrived at the hotel too. glayish had eaten too much and managed to make herself sick (-_-; ..) so I went to visit their very busy room and chat a bit. I've admired both their cosplays sooo long and it's been years since we saw them at a convention (Anime Central 2009) so it was nice to talk to them!

Ended up just going back to the room to sleep and be exhausted from the long trip (9.5 hours).

Friday

In terms of cosplay for this convention, I DID manage to make something new! I finally finished the official genderbend of North Italy (nyotalia) ~!

(Taken by glayish at the con) on DeviantART

(Taken at home)

It was very odd and uncomfortable being in a female cosplay lolz. I managed to fuck up my mascara into a sponge-bob like look, so I attempted to put on false eyelashes for the first time. Fuuuckkk lol, let's just say the glue globbed everywhere and they kept popping off until I found a moment to fix them.

glayish and I met up with izunadrop247 (one of our DBZ cosplay friends from Otakon) and joined the registration line. izunadrop247 was kind enough to help carry my bags and camera all of Friday :'D!! It's difficult to get around in heels and skirts, so that was very pleasant.

Of course the reg line was awful and I managed to slice my hand open on the schedule book and got a viciously bleeding paper cut. The band-aids I had gotten for North Italy (she wears one on her knee) came in handy then -_-;.... I got into an insane worked up mood too, so the con didn't start out perfectly;

izunadrop247 wore his Light Yagami cosplay to match with glayish's Misa Amane. They looked really good!!

Anyway I'm glad they walked with me, because being alone in Hetalia cosplay is pretty lame XD;;

We 3 went to lunch at the bar/grill in the hotel atrium and then headed into the dealers room. We wandered around but I didn't really see anything I wanted to buy. The collection of DBZ figurines weren't very good so I didn't get any.

Stopped by the Funimation Booth and spotted sppandaaa in her China cosplay. Rushed up and molested her from behind like Hetalia fans must do bahahah XD.

GUESS WHAT WE WERE ACTUALLY WEARING HETALIA AT THE SAME TIME FOR ONCE!!! Though I failed by being in Nyotalia OTL. Oh well, this con was great in the fact that I actually got to see sppandaaa in costume more than once for a split second.

At the Funimation booth I had wanted to pick up the Slayers Revolution and Slayers Evolution-R boxsets, but apparently they didn't bother to bring those OTL. WHRYYY!!!? Shit I was looking forward to not having to pay for shipping and import on those. Gawhrh

Picked up Axis Powers Hetalia: Season 3 though, to watch with my axis glayish, _anatra_ and jiyoon<3

After checking out the dealers room we headed over to the atrium fountains where the Hetalia gathering was taking place. Stuck around for a bit then headed back to the dealers.

Saw grayhour and emudii!! <33

I totally forget all the shit we did now.. crap I usually don't take so long to write these reports so I can't remember it all in chronological order.

SO... Also on Friday..

Saw Nerdception from tumblr!

And also,

Letelle and her gf as Uranus + Neptune! They were so pretty!! I remember them as USA and UK from last year's Katsucon. Letelle is one of my fav Hetalia cosplayers for sure.

Met with lonym82!! Rocky~ She is sooo nice, she found me while we were in Artist's Alley and got me a cute Italy bookmark/card. *-*!!! <3 I also found her later while she was in her Holy Roman Empire cosplay:

Sorry lonym82's eyes are closed, it was nighttime and hard to get a pic!

I waited around the Gazebo area in the evening in hopes of seeing sppandaaa's full Nyotalia 2P group, but it turned out that they were late in getting together OTL;! I didn't get to see, but I did manage to catch Letelle and her friend as 2P Germany and Italy!

After that glayish, izunadrop247 and I attempted to go to a few panels. "Con Horror Stories" and "DragonBall Evolution: Roast" SOUNDED promising, but after trying to sit for the either HORRENDOUSLY boring, or NOT FUNNY panels I remembered why we usually don't end up going to any. Both failed miserably to be entertaining.

Anyway, after that izunadrop247 went on his way and glayish and I ended up finding a whole bunch of Canadians in the Gazebo area. Sam Lau, solartempest, sakurak, and Mike/Alex our roomies to name a few!!

Thanks for the mini-shoot solartempest~!!! <33 And having a relaxing time being able to chat with sakurak was so nice and yet strange. WHY does it take being 500km away from Toronto for such an event to occur?? OTL. <3

Anyway, we went back to the room and I was very happy to change out of fem!Italy. The shoes weren't the most comfortable after 14 hours. Also, I had managed to forget to pack regular shoes. (I only had my intense snow boots). So I had to borrow glayish's flat Misa shoes in order to walk to the 18+ panels & anime. Roomate Mike (Rock nam Lee) joined us.

LONG STORY SHORT, the 18+ stuff failed as well OTL. LOL. See this is what we get for not knowing anime names and the new stuff. We ended up sitting in on an "Ikeburo after dark" panel that we thought was going to be 18+ anime viewing. It turned out to be some kind of yaoi role-play panel which had Mike shed frightened tears and bolt from his seat.

We found some 18+ anime to watch, but we only caught the ending, and it was generally just fanservice. It was late and we were all tired from the day anyway, so we just went back to the room to sleep.

Saturday

DRAGONBALL DAY. Lawd, lol, well it was damned difficult to wake up in the morning, but we somehow managed. glayish got into her Narcissa Malfoy cosplay, and I wore my Son Gohan (Android Saga) cosplay.

That version of Gohan has been one that I've wanted to do for ages, but it never quite fit with the groups that we had set up, so I never did it. I'm very happy with how the wig and cosplay turned out though!

I'm doing a KameHameHa at the 2:06 time mark!

The DragonBall gathering at the Gazebo/Atrium failed. Like.. what. Seriously nobody showed up at the right time. So glayish went around to try and get some workable photos of ourselves.

The weather was VERY much on our side. It was sunny with a high of 15 degrees. I did for once hope for snow with this costume though. It would have made for a nice photo for an "original timeline" kind of mood.

Actually ran into the DBZ people later in the dealer's room. glayish snapped this pic for me!

Saturday we kept running into Kaiser-Mony, Jess and Andrew (Aerialdown) (ALL of whom looked amazing in their outfits!!)

It was also the day where I was trying to run around and meet up with the girl who bought my Chibi Trunks cosplay off of me. It proved difficult to meet up with her because she wasn't staying in the Gaylord Hotel;;;

Anyway, glayish and I did manage to check out some programming! The Masquerade was well done with plenty of great skits. Seriously the costuming is some of the best at Katsucon.

My favourite was definitely the Ranma 1/2 skit!!

Unfortunately I didn't see the World Cosplay Summit. I was busy trying to meet up with that girl for the Chibi Trunks cosplay, and then the need for food won out. glayish and I had wanted to try that awesome Chinese restaurant in the National Harbour, but the wait was an HOUR;;; Lol the hostess and some local patrons KNEW I was from DragonBall Z though. This is what I like about America (and Baltimore), DBZ is so well received and known!! (mostly cause of Black people.... lol... love DBZ I guess)

Jess and Andrew (Aerialdown) joined us for dinner (:'D) and in the end we picked up some Mexican fast food and went back to the hotel to eat in the atrium.

Later on I finally was able to hand off the Chibi Trunks cosplay, and glayish, Mike & Alex, and I decided to make another try at 18+ anime and programming.

We sat in for the 18+ Anime Music Video awards. There were only about 5 videos played, and the crowd got obnoxiously biligerent >_<. So the panelists put on a hentai series called Dark Love.

UMMM YEAH WTF LOL *SOBS*. That video will haunt me. After the scenes with the worms and the bleeding sex scenes and so on we picked up and headed back to the room for sleep.

Sunday

Sunday we woke up and immediately got everything packed up and put into the car. Didn't bother to cosplay since it would have been too much of a hassle. glayish and I did our last tour around the dealer's room and Artist Alley picking up a few things for gifts for people at home.

It should be noted, since I recently got [S][H][E][R]locked by the BBC series Sherlock, glayish and I entertained ourselves by taking photos of all the BBC Sherlock cosplayers we could find.

There were actually plenty of great ones @_@!!

Our Photos from Katsucon 2012

There was an awkward moment where glayish almost rushed a woman in a blue scarf and dark coat, thinking she was a Femlock, but she was actually just a normal woman XD;;;

Mike & Alex, and glayish and I met up for 3pm and we started the long drive home. I'm definitely glad we stayed with Mike & Alex. They were funny to talk to and it was a great rooming experience and roadtrip!

Overall Katsucon 2012 wasn't as good as 2011 (WE MISSED YOU _anatra_ ). But it was good anyway! Great time seeing more of our American friends and I got to churn out 2 new cosplays that I've been meaning to complete.

It was fun!

MTAC (Toronto Comicon), Wizarding World, Anime North, Pottermore

Soo March Toronto Comicon 2012 went by. I must say, compared to DTAC and the previous year's MTAC, this newly improved "Comicon" was FAR better than expected. It was actually a really nice time, and felt like a day at FanExpo, with loads of sci-fi guests. It seems like Hobbystar is fading away from the anime crowd, which is a good direction for them, because they put on SHIT productions for that.

I wore my Hungary cosplay with my friend Yvonne as Belarus~!

I'll never find an Austria ;_;

glayish and I went to Wizarding World in Orlando!!! Our mom took us as a birthday gift, and her sister (our Aunt) and cousin came as well. IT WAS SUCH AN AMAZING TRIP! Had a great time :D

Blackberry phone photos because my Nikon was way too heavy to carry around the theme parks and rides.

We stayed at one of the resort hotels on Universal Studios property and did a full 2 days at Wizarding World and the other attactions. omfg the rides. We went on almost EVERY ride and event, I think we only missed 3 or 4 out of the entire experience, so it was a very busy and exciting trip. Spent a lot too on Hogwarts memerobilia, though not as as much as glayish and my Aunt did XD.

I loved the Hogwarts castle ride (the Dragon exhaling steam out on you is the best part hell yeah), but I think my favourite ride at the park was The Revenge of the Mummy. Rollercoaster in the dark. Thrillerrr

We exhausted Universal Studios, so we spent our 3rd day at Disney's Epcot because my Aunt had really wanted to go. The last time we ever visited Disney was waaaay back (I think I was 8 or 9) so it was pleasant to go back, even though the rides were lame compared to Universal's rollercoasters.

Of course, the World pavillions were SO MUCH MORE INTERESTING thanks to Hetalia XD;

It should be interesting to note that the Italian pavillion and German pavillion were right next to each other, connected by The Romantic Road

It was super difficult to get photos of the whole place because of the crowds (and it was impossible to stand back and get the full shots), but yes. :D

All in all, it was a great trip, though I somehow contracted a contagion while at Disney and fell sick OTL. The bug is still hanging around so even after a week I've got a crappy cough and sniffles -_-;;; ugh. Hello 4th sickness of the year.

In other news, cosplay progress!

I posted this stuff on facebook, but no matter how much I try to use it more and like it; I hate facebook. So I figure I will just go back to posting on livejournal. (Even though nobody really reads LJ anymore lol)

My ClearlyContacts brand 'Splash of Color' blue contacts. (Colour is Blue n' Brazen). It's so tough to find a true blue contact that will show up on brown eyes, but these do really well!

Ripped up my Princess Amelia wig and restyled it so it was less stiff looking. I recently added in the purple low-light wefting but it's not in these pics.

Resin casting!! fff I dunno I was expecting something horrific to happen with my gems but they're turning out passable. Still experimenting, I've got some more curing right now... (although I suspect I will have to re-cast some of the required blue ones because I noticed a lot of bubbles -_-)

Right now I'm not sure what's going on for Anime North. I'm not working on Max (Beyblade) anymore because my Mariam couldn't make it to AN this year. I'm also making very very slow progress... I don't want to rush anything on my Amelia cosplay just because this is a remake and it's no good if you remake something and it looks shitty -_-;; (everything is already looking like an improvement to my 2006 cosplay though). Also, every time I go to work on it, my mother shames and guilts me for it. What? No comments when I'm spending a whole night scrolling on tumblr (MAJOR NON-PRODUCTIVE ACTIVITY)?? But as soon as I sit down to mix chemicals and plug in a glue gun I'm spending my free time on a worthless hobby.

It's depressing. I don't know if I'll be able to finish on time for Anime North just because of that. We'll see.

Pottermore finally opened! For MONTHS _anatra_, jiyoon, glayish and I have been waiting to sign up and get official sorting from the sorting hat.

My username: NimbusGlow2758

As someone who has identified as a Gryffindor for over 10 years, it was like a stab to the gut getting sorted into Slytherin. :\

I'm profoundly glad I wore all my gryffindor merchandise on the weekend before, because now it feels like a lie OTL. *sob* I'm not surprised though. I was most afraid of being sorted Slytherin because I always suspected. I just wish I had sorted Gryffindor ='(

I suck at having patience for games though, so I likely won't be on there much after the initial curiosity for the content fades.

Made the mistake of reading the comments on my youtube videos today. Now depressed as hell :/

...shut up i am Gohan 5ever ok

....

Looks like glayish and I will be attending Anime North for a bit this weekend! _anatra_ won't be there (she was absent last year, too), so that will be sad. But glayish and I managed to finish our Slayers Revolution / Evolution-R cosplays (lawl 2 years later), so we'll have something new to wear at least.

(bahahah yes I've chosen the worst screencap for this)

It's relatively new anyway.

Lately I just keep redoing old cosplays of my favourite characters so they look better (Gohan, Amelia, etc etc). I don't like many characters to begin with, so I've seriously run out of things I want to cosplay. Which is a shame, because I love the hobby and I don't want to give it up just yet entirely.

Certainly though, I've lost a lot of interest in anime. They don't make anime like they used to. I need SPACE. And burly men. And lots of fighting. >:(

Which obviously explains why I have gotten into Star Trek: TOS.

Kirk + Spock
by ~TechnoRanma on deviantART

I had a post a while back with a bunch of Kirk/Spock fanwork recs. Most of them were recs based off the 2009 movie, but I have to say, having watched the original television series with William Shatner and Leonard Nimoy, the 2009 movie was just awful. Why did they think changing all those things was GOOD?!!? Now it's just a screwed up continuity which keeps making me rant and rave :/!!! and I won't even go into the spoiler pics for the Star Trek sequel movie. In short, Star Trek: TOS far superior to the remake.

I also added some BBC Sherlock recs on there. I entirely blame tumblr on the Sherlock stuff. Otherwise I would have never bothered to watch it.

NEWEST FANDOM! The Avengers. Those movies are spectacular. I don't care much for the comics themselves, but the movieverse's are excellent.

The Avengers movie itself tho. OH MY GAWD asjdllsadk honestly I had no idea I wanted all those things before that. And can you say THOR & LOKI?? I shipped it before, but damn that reunion was filled with some beautiful space gods ;_;. (It helps that _anatra_, jiyoon, and glayish share the sentiment)

Now the Thor/Loki gift art I drew for _anatra_ for xmas last year has been getting plenty of comments and favs XDD

Avengers: Thor x Loki
by ~TechnoRanma on deviantART

( wow I suck lawl animay style D: )
The small fandom for it exploded suddenly and I'm kind of addicted to tumblr at the moment for all the hilarious/sexy art and comics. I'm not sorry.

Watch this for maximum amounts of thor/loki hots. (my fav music video for them)

Anyway, there's not much else going in the fandom front. Irl I have started doing marketing for our 2 new companies, went to the OCE Discovery Conference and dad bought a new porsche carrera. Oh and I think we are buying a 3D printer, which I'm getting trained to use tomorrow I think. I can't wait to make 3D plastic creations :'D

Anime North 2012 Con Report

So Anime North 2012 was this past weekend!

Hahaha I can hardly believe it's been 10 years since glayish and I first attended that convention (back in 2002). The con itself has definitely changed quite a bit since then.

I was actually certain that we wouldn't be going this year due to 2 corporate gala dinners being planned to happen close to the same date, and also for the fact that neither glayish or I decided to pre-register for the weekend.

It turned out that we finished our Slayers cosplays and got the weekend free, so we showed up to the TCC around noon on Saturday!

The parking lot was PACKED, and we ended up having to park all the way at the corner of the North building. I spotted a section that was green (lawl weeds) and relatively non-parking lot looking, so glayish and I decided to take a few photos of each other before the sun and heat baked off all our make-up.

by ~Glay on deviantART

Our cosplays turned out so well O_______o LOL!! There's something to be said about finishing your costume in advance and actually getting sleep before the con. At least, nothing broke horribly or malfunctioned in a way that ruined every photo. Well actually one of my red gems on my side-pouch-thing fell off while I was driving us to the con centre, but some double-sided tape stuck it right back on and held for the entire day.

glayish's facial prosthetics were great! The chin one gave issues while she ate, but otherwise the make-up totally held up.

After we got our photos of each other, we walked past the MASSIVE pre-registration line. Honestly the people standing in it looked so pissed off. Not to mention that the regular registration line (to buy a day-pass) was empty and all you had to do was walk in to get it.

Not many people took our photos, but given that it was Saturday and we were cosplaying from an old series (psjdjdj it's not THAT old technically Slayers Revolution & Slayers Evolution-R are from 2008), I'm not surprised. Lol;;; we kind of failed and did the same pose in each photo we did get taken XD;; I swear I can't find any where I'm looking in the opposite direction. Argh lol

Rock nam Lee was awesome and grabbed some super high quality shots of us :O!! I wish we had gotten more as a pair together, though we hadn't practised or thought of any poses beforehand, so that made it awkward to come up with something on the spot.

Lol; it is a little known (?) fact that I OTP Zelgadis x Amelia so hard. I was HUUGE into it and drew art and tried to write fic (lol so bad) and was a member of plenty yahoo groups back when yahoo groups were popular. LOL. In Revolution and Evolution-R the show kind of made ZelxAmelia into more of a friendship than romantic, but I still ship it very much so.

Amelia is my favourite anime girl character, so I was very happy to be able to cosplay her with some better skills this time around.

We ate lunch and then people-watched. OF COURSE, since glayish and I are totally into Thor & Loki (and the rest of those mortal Avengers lawl) right now, we had to grab photos of this clever fangirl ensemble of lolita Thor and Loki chained together.

They were also chained to an Odin.

I had to ask if it was Nick Fury or Odin. Lolll she said she was too white to be Nick Fury, but to be fair, she was wearing her eyepatch on the Nick Fury side. (Incorrect for Odin). :I

Oh look some more Avengers!! hAhahahhhh;; I didn't recognise Justine (Steve Rogers) until she turned around.

We hung out for a while, and then we saw Andy & his gf's Reboot group.
I had provided instructions on muscle-suiting (Matrix arms), make-up, and wig work (Bob/Mouse), so it was interesting to see them pull that together. Andy's gf has some serious cosplay skills, I liked her AndrAIa cosplay a lot XD.

It appeared that Andy didn't keep or replace the straps I rigged up for his muscle arms when I airbrushed them for him, cause they are falling down somewhat. Though apparently they were very rushed in getting ready and around to their various photoshoots and gatherings on Saturday, so that probably explains it.

We wandered around to the DoubleTree, and then back to the front of the TCC where we ran into kintaei, centzon and hikari_light!

kintaei was awesome with hikari_light's camera and got some pair shots of us!

Zelgadis and Amelia
by ~TechnoRanma on deviantART

Thanks so much you guys ;_;!!

We mostly hung around and saw people we hadn't in a long time. Which was good. Especially getting to talk to lelola for more than 2 seconds!! Which was great, because she was one of the very first people we met at Anime North sooo many years ago XD.

While surfing around for photos I noticed two things that we missed out on!!

ELMO. LIGHT. AND L. WITH THE YAOI PADDLE. OH GOD LOL. Last year the L versus Light yaoi paddle humilation round was the highlight of the dealers room. I sorely regret having missed this free for all.

AND THIS.

CELL X FRIEZA!! YES. WHY ARE PEOPLE DOING DBZ YAOI THE *ONE TIME* I'M NOT at the DBZ Gathering!?

Y_Y *cry a river*

Anyway, later we met up with Gary and his gf and big group of friends from the States. We hung out with Gary last AN and it was great to be able to do it again this year. They were so funny!! XD

Originally we had planned to eat dinner with SutekiGo + Andrew & Jess, but they were exhausted from their FF8 group and were in the dealers room where Kaiser-Mony had a booth, so we got to join Gary + co instead.

It was an awesome time, and the food at the Sushi Time was good stuff (though it was difficult to eat the big portion while still in cosplay at the end of the day).

We stayed until late and eventually it was around 11pm, so glayish and I had to decline hotel room cake and walk back to our car then drive home.

On Sunday, glayish and I did totally last minute closet L and Light cosplay to show up at the con XD.

LAWD.

Bahah on Friday night on the way to the gas station, I bought a length of chain and then attached it to some handcuffs we already had. Instant cosplay times. SAD. More people took our photos as L & Light than as Zel & Amelia looool.

Anyway, we got to the con around noon again, and then immediately went to get burgers at Harveys. We were voraciously hungry from not being able to eat much the night before. Normal pants and belts means eating is possible lolol.

Texted chibik3r0 and went to watch their Splicer photoshoot with viewpoints.

centzon was there and we had lots of fun spending the rest of the day with her!! <3!! I wish I could go to more cons with centzon XD!! I remember we didn't get much time to Death Note together at Otakon 2011 on Sunday, so being able to spend more of Sunday with her was great fun XD.

We kind of wandered around, took photos, and saw people (like kintaei, ochika, mekou and yavarice ).

We finally got to see SutekiGo at the end of the day. There FF8 cosplays were amazing, and the props were crazy good. I want to know how to build props from styrene now o_o.

After that, the weather turned gray, and we went to a dinner at Jack Astors. (Which pretty much everybody we know from the Toronto con circuit was seated at 9 realms worth of tables.)

I forgot to mention; I was pretty much ODIN all weekend. XD

I cast Thor ( glayish )out about 9 times bahahahah XD. And Loki ( centzon ) once. Because he gave me amazing cookies. So he could stay worthy in Asgard. HAHA.

In the end we said our goodbyes and dropped mekou back at her hotel before we headed home. All around, the con was very low pressure and laid-back, and we got some great photos and some fun times. We never did end up going to any panels or inside the dealers room (I missed seeing the masquerade though).

Most likely we won't be going to ACEN or Otakon this year. But definitely FanExpo. Hopefully I can figure out something to cosplay for that seeing as how I've used up almost all my non-group cosplay ideas XD.

LJ UPDATE TIME!!

So recently I've become Marketing Director for a new recruitment/placement company for engineers. It's just starting up, which means I'm very busy creating all the brochures, flyers, and website materials. Being busy makes the work day go by faster though, so that's good. Also means I'm not poor and can buy more frivolous things which I need, lawl.

Still doing commissions though! Recently I took on another DragonBall Z Trunks boot commission for a nice guy. Here's a pic of the finished product;

mens10.5

The commission process with him was wonderfully stress-free as he pretty much left me be to work and finish without a bombardment of e-mails asking for updates. He should make an excellent Trunks ^o^! I swear I can make these boots without even thinking now. (Even more reason to not make a tutorial no matter how many people keep badgering me. It's way too good an item to take commissions for.. maybe one day if I mangle one of my hands in a terrible accident and am unable to make a pair myself anymore I'll make a tutorial, but not before then >_> )

I finished that commission so quickly, I also took on an 18+ Hetalia artwork!

preview
XD;;; the buyer requested it be kept private, so only a small preview is up on my personal LJ. Damn shame cause I think it turned out porno-rific.

Working on these things helps me not feel bored, especially with nothing much going on this summer.

This summer glayish and did not plan for any U.S. cons. We did go to Katsucon in February, but just remembering the brutal heat of Otakon and so on from last year, we decided to stay in Canada this time.

We really want to get more Slayers photos!! But not at a con, because it's too difficult to find a spot that has the adventure scenery that Amelia and Zelgadis appear in. Since we had so much success last Canada Day with our huge Axis & Allies Hetalia photoshoot (SutekiGO, Kaiser-Mony, Karen, Jess & Andrew) we wanted to try and do something again this time!

I worked on adding Pokota to our Amelia + Zel duo!

He stands up by himself!! I was impressed with my plushie making skills XD. I only needed a square of purple fur, but the lady at Trendy Fabrics would only sell me a huge strip. So I totally have a shit ton of that stuff left over. No idea what I will do with it, perhaps I will make another cosplay sales post in the near future.

Attended the Toronto Pride Parade 2012 this year! TOTALLY MISSED _anatra_ more than words can convey ='(!! But had a great time with glayish, jiyoon, Yvonne, and Eric anyways. It was freaking hot outside, and to be honest, the parade was severely lacking attractive people. DAMN I mean... so many old man in bondage gear or naked. HRUgh -_-!! The float with the hottest people was the LOBLAWS float, I mean wtf? Seriously!? Even Trojan didn't give out the same free stuff as previous years. The funding was severely cut from what I gather, so that probably was it.... Still though.

...
AND OF COURSE I STILL LOVE HETALIA. So since the EUROCUP 2012 finals fell on both Pride & Canada Day, I totally picked up an Italian football kit and threw on my Nyotalia Italy wig to wander around the downtown Toronto.
ita2
pride2012
glayish wore her Spain jersey. I was tempted to draw a Romano curl on that photo just now, but I didn't. Hhahaha be thankful.

Now it's just the long stretch before FanExpo. I decided on my cosplay a while back, but now things are actually turning out, so I'll be tracking my progress. (By 'turning out' I mean, I'm actually losing the 10lbs I need to XD;;; )

tpolprogress2
I did a make-up test with my wig and ears yesterday! Of course I can in no way be Jolene Blalock, but it will be a joy to cosplay from the Star Trek universe. Plus the pressure of wearing a catsuit is actually making me lose some weight, so that's a plus.

Summer has been going well. I'm usually reblogging Thor x Loki yaoi on tumblr every night and reading copious amounts of slash fic, so can't complain bout anything really hahahaha.

Now back to work...

CON REPORT TIME!

I don't know if anybody was following my LJ to-do list post, but it basically describes in point form the mad scramble the week before the con to finish everything cosplay related OTL.

This year glayish and I decided to stay at a hotel. This was our 13th FanExpo... usually we don't bother with the hotel because it is a local Toronto con, and we could either stay with _anatra_ or just drive from our house. But THIS year, since we didn't do Otakon or Anime Central, we decided we definitely needed to splurge and do the hotel. (Plus _anatra_ is now a resident of Kingston, ON so we couldn't keep up the tradition of staying at her apartment OTL )

On Thursday we checked into the Radisson Hotel Admiral (on Toronto Harbourfront), which was about a 6-8 minute walk to the South Building entrance. I don't think many cosplayers stayed in that hotel, because the hotel staff looked pleasantly at us and welcomed us with amusement rather than epic hate o_o. The staff and service were incredible, and the bathroom lighting was white light and bright. Plus there was a nice Japanese restaurant, 24-hr Rabba's, and ATM right next door. SO convenient, so glad we stayed there.

Here's the view from our window:
DSC_0352

Lawl sketchy parking garage, but nice CN Tower on the other block!

As soon as glayish and I finished checking in, we headed over to the South Building to buy our weekend passes. Didn't bother to wear any cosplay on Thursday because we got there so late, and we still had last-minute cosplay pieces to finish in the hotel room. It was a good thing we didn't because we were super winded from just the walk up and down the loading docks to the ticket booths then back to the hotel OTL.

We ate some Japanese food...

IMG-20120823-00173
lawl the shrimp tempura XDDD (YU-GI-OH! GX REFERENCE)

And bought some snacks and coke for the night of preparation.

And by preparation I mean I had to shave/nair hair removal two thirds of my eyebrows off in order to be a Vulcan.

IMG-20120823-00175

LOLL;;;;; Seriously shaving them off is the only good way to make sure I didn't look like I had crusty human eyebrows. Mine are so horribly thick and black that it had to be done.

glayish Similarly took a package of bleach to her eyebrows and hairline to get ready for wearing her lacefront blond THOR wig.

I finished up the work on the Loki muzzle, and then I crashed while glayish sewed on snaps late into the night.

***

On Friday we got up early and I started getting into my Sub-Commander T'Pol (Star Trek: Enterprise) cosplay!

Nikki done!! Time to go get pics! Later!

glayish did not get into cosplay, as she promised to take some photos of me in the morning (since being in Thor meant little mobility to take photos).

These two are my fav from the weekend. Thanks glayish!

Baww I love that colour. It's her suit from the 3rd season.

Sooo glad I dieted and lost the ten pounds (from 120 to 110). Though sewing the jumpsuit didn't end up being as easy as I thought it would be (30 metres of piping + stretch velvet is shitty to work with lawl lawl lala), I'm still pleased I managed to emulate the style of the official one.

I actually thought that I would not be recognized by many people, because honestly Enterprise was kind of shitty, and it got cancelled pretty soundly... But I actually got recognized a LOT and received so many compliments ;_;!

I have to say, considering this was the first time I have made a costume from something other than Anime, the comments I received were much different. For one thing, any guys who took my photo were not creepy and/or rude. Almost always my sewing, accuracy or crafting skill were complimented. HUGELY pleasant surprise and difference to the shitty comments I usually pick up from anime/gamer con-goers. >:I

Anyway, glayish and I walked around the dealer's room and that's when things started to fuck up.

lol *r@ge*

Long story short, we had to dash back to the hotel and by that time it was lunch time so we found food and I recovered while glayish started the task of putting on Thor.

TOO MUCH INFORMATION: sudden, explosive pms everywhere

glayish finally got Thor on!! After being around her for like 2.5 months while working on it 24/7 it was a relief to see her look so good!

IMG-20120824-00177

We walked back to the con and met up with Yvonne who was wearing some cute Lolita dress.

DSC_0444

She totally had the right idea XD; Hahaha ohh the weather :'D.... Toronto picked the worst weekend to be so damn hot and humid LOL;;!!

We wandered the con and dealer's a bit more and around 4pm _anatra_ arrived at union station from Kingston, ON!

Yvonne, glayish, and I walked back to the hotel and met up with her. glayish sat airing herself out after wearing Thor in the heat, and _anatra_ immediately started getting into Loki!

I had wanted to go to the Friday Star Trek photoshoot gathering, but _anatra_ wasn't done getting her cosplay on, and of course glayish was going to wait for her, and Yvonne would rather wait for glayish, so I didn't want to walk over and stand around alone without knowing anybody else, cause every time that I do that I end up getting latched onto by some fail individual... so I didn't go to it. -_-

_anatra_ finally wearing Loki!

Liz!!!!

So we finally walked back to the con centre in time for the 6:00pm Avengers photoshoot!

Which they were a big hit at!

Friday photoshoot, dats sum Thorki (Tumblr Gifset)

We did a last minute run through the dealer's room just as they were closing, and I managed to snag a cute well-made Totoro plushie that my manager at the office asked me about getting.

IMG-20120828-00180

Yvonne and I also picked up Axis Powers Hetalia SEASON 04! BUT I HAVEN'T WATCHED IT YET. OTL!! MUST DO. Before somebody spoils me horribly on the gag reel.

We exited the dealer's hall and ran into Paul Hillier who was looking to get some Thor + Loki action.

We went outside to the small green park that was fenced off for the huge entry line and did an impromptu photo & video shoot. I sat on a bench and nursed my blistered up feet while taking some stalker video and pics.

Somebody in the crowd watching screamed 'HUG HIM' (Tumblr Gifset)

Close up of Hug (Tumblr Gifset)

After parting ways we trekked over to Jack Astor's to meet up with jiyoon, Amy, Kijs, Warrilow, and another of _anatra_'s friends.

We were a bit late, but when we got there, the others had gotten a bar table high up and uncomfortable to sit at while in such restrictive cosplays. I don't know WHY they didn't just get a regular fucking table but there we are.

Anyway fucking kijs elbows our waitress who can barely squeeze to get around him cause of his size in the first place, and she spills a glass of coke ALL THE WAY DOWN THE SIDE OF MY JUMPSUIT.

,,, Fucking )(@I)WpoiP;, i WAS LIVID. Cause wtf I spent 3 weeks making and handsewing this suit to wear the weekend, and I can't exactly get it dry-cleaned while I'm at the con!!!! Yvonne, jiyoon and glayish had to spend the next 30min helping me club soda wipe down and dry myself off in the bathroom.

And the most infuriating part is that fucking kijs didn't bother to apologize when I got back - as if I didn't KNOW he was the one who elbowed the waitress!! I cannot abide that awful conduct.

Tore apart my half of a jalapeno burger and then we walked back to the hotel room. jiyoon and Yvonne came along and we ate ice cream and recovered a bit from the day. Yvonne went back to her apartment nearby and jiyoon and I watched as glayish and _anatra_ practiced their masquerade skit.

I mixed the audio for them. I also styled the Loki wig, made the Thor arm warmers, and the Loki muzzle.

***

Saturday

WE GOT UP EAAAAAAARLY ON SATURDAY. jiyoon showed up with Tim Horton's @ 8:30am ;_;!!! Yvonne came over as _anatra_, glayish and I got into costume.

_anatra_ was getting into her armored version and cape of Loki for Saturday since she planned to wear it in the masquerade. She was having issues though, so glayish, Yvonne, and I went to go line up for entry to the con.

Yvonne was sooo nice and lent her premium pass to glayish so she could get inside to line up for the masquerade registration. So Yvonne and I waited in line about 10 min to get inside. Even though it was 10am it was still insanely humid and the sun was burning. OTL. Not fun.

Anyway we got inside and hung around the masquerade reg line. It was super packed even early. Finally _anatra_ got over to the con center and after the walk and waiting outside in the heat she was a mess of overheating and sweat X_x!! We all went to the bathroom to help fix her up, but she still needed spirit gum for the wig which was suddenly slipping around everywhere o_o;;;

glayish and _anatra_ got a call that their commissioned props had arrived at the hotel @_@!!! There was major drama leading up to their props not arriving on time, but then, they did!

Ahrghr

They went back to the hotel to get the props, while Yvonne and I went to check out the Dealer's hall and Artist Alley. Turns out the Marvel Booth was having a cosplay contest! We watched the cosplayers and I took a bunch of photos (will have to upload later). There were so many 'fem' versions of the characters. It's likely because the majority of cosplayers are women, and most cannot create muscle suits or want to crossdress.

After that, Yvonne and I parted ways. She went to her DC panel and I went to go line up for a slice of pizza ($4.25 FFFFFfkfkdk). It took so long, I had to hurry to the line for Kate Mulgrew (Captain Janeway) in Hall G.

I managed to cut in line with a group of girls XD;; and I grabbed a seat and ate my pizza while I waited for the panel to start. SOMEHOW glayish and _anatra_ had managed to get back to the con and found me in Hall G. I hadn't been saving seats, but it was lucky I put my bag on the chair next to me and the man next to me had done the same! Thor and Loki joined me just as the panel started.

Kate Mulgrew was FABULOUS. She had wonderful anecdotes and an entertaining answer for every question without it ever getting boring. Very excellent panel I loved it. I was absurdly pleased when a 7 of 9 cosplayer told Mulgrew she was in love with her XD.

I was sitting behind a Spock (2009 version)!

IMG-20120825-00178

I didn't see many Star Trek costumers overall, but he was good.

After that, Saturday kind of passed in the dealer's hall and various south building levels. We met up with Yvonne again and saw Rae with her son and her sisters. Since I had missed the Friday Star Trek photoshoot, I wanted to try and get to the Saturday one. Only, I think I must have mis-read, because when we showed up to the spot the place got CROWDED with the Star Wars 501s. OTL.

Yvonne and I accompanied glayish and _anatra_ to the masquerade green room where I helped both of them fix up for judging. We hung around a bit before I got into contact with Jess to line up to watch the masq.

We got a spot in line and had to sit uncomfortably for 40 min before they let us inside Hall G to sit. It was a looooooong wait for the masq to start. The quality of the costumes were great O_O!! FanExpo has really come far in that respect. The novices were amazing wtf. glayish and _anatra_ were entry 76 so it took a long long time to get there XD;.

But yonder skit doth appear.

Wooo! So directly after, Jess, Yvonne and I booked it to the green room to see them. We hung around and talked, and eventually Jess had to leave to catch the bus home. The rest of us waited on the masquerade results. glayish and _anatra_ won Best in Master Division. That was nice considering how long each had been working on everything. I put many hours in, too.

Saturday night, we were all exhausted and got out of our cosplays and generally felt awful. jiyoon showed up and she ordered Chinese food, and well all gorged on it at 1:30am.

***

Sunday it was torture waking up.... ughhh

I got into my Nyotalia North Italy cosplay and Yvonne wore her Belarus. We got everything in the hotel packed up and filmed some THORKI / THUNDERFROST (Thor x Loki slash) porn on the hotel bed XD (Gif sets of that coming later).

We checked out and packed up the car and then headed for the south building together.

I guess we got photographed while crossing the street, because THIS PHOTO showed up in the Toronto Star! The article was about the overselling of tickets and overcrowding, but, HELL YEAH IN THE NEWSPAPER NONETHELESS!!!! (Ironic, we barely had to wait in line to enter the convention all weekend)

Toronto Star

torontostar

Yvonne and I went to the Sunday Hetalia Photoshoot.. uhh but it was mostly fail. Nobody was running it, and I could tell they were mostly casually cosplayed. After that the rest of the con was filled with dealer's hall and wandering around.

We ended the day by going to Yvonne's building to use her 7th floor terrace to get some nice photos and video of each other. Hopefully some of those photos soon!

After that we had to go back to the hotel since _anatra_'s last train to Kingston was at 6:30pm, and our parking with the hotel ran out at 6:00pm.

Everyone was feeling terribly gross, broken, and exhausted, so unfortunately we had to skip out on the dinner with Jess, Lindy, Lisa, Andrew & co X_X!! Felt really bad about that, but damn, it would not have been pretty.

Said our good-byes, and headed home from the con.

All in all, there were some shitty things that happened, but mostly it was a great weekend! I am sad it went by so quickly. It was a lot of long nights of work to finish our cosplays, but in the end the reception was great, and the events were enjoyable! Of course getting to see _anatra_, jiyoon, and Yvonne again was brilliant.

Great con ^^. That's why FanExpo remains my favourite convention.

NYCC and Halloween Cosplay Plans

So I did have an entry about a Labour Day photoshoot at Webster's Falls that I went to, and new things going on in my job and business and also some more fandom ranting and recommendations..

BUT I really need to use LJ at this moment to plan out what I have to sew and make for NYCC and Halloween this year, so I will make my other post later.. hopefully, when I finish most of this stuff XD;;

Max from Beyblade V Force

THURSDAY 11th - SUNDAY 14th NYCC

I didn't plan to wear T'Pol (Star Trek Enterprise) at NYCC, even though it's likely more appropriate for a comic/sci-fi con, because it has taken a month for my eyebrows to grow back in since FanEXPO .. XD;;; I also need to do repairs and fix-ups which scare me, since it will mean seam-ripping and handsewing more of that stupid stretch velvet and piping -_-;;

I'd like to re-wear T'Pol in a place where there is a good photo-location too. So many people took my photo at FanExpo but it's been impossible to find ANY of them online -_-. So.. yes

I'm eager to finally finish and wear Max from Beyblade V Force though. I had planned to make & wear it at Anime North 2012 this year, but my Mariam (Saint Shields team, Maggie animetomboy) couldn't make it ;_;! It seems my plans for wearing this cosplay always screw up somehow OTL. sppandaaa said she would make Ray for NYCC though, so it'd be great to get photos together *o*

I am bringing Android Saga Gohan and North Italy (male) too. Unfortunately my plane ride is early on Sunday, so I won't be able to cosplay that day. I'm pretty sure I'll be wearing DBZ on Thursday, and Friday/Saturday are either Beyblade or Hetalia.

BAWHAHA XD. Ok so honestly, I must do this. I recently finished watching ALL of Star Trek: TOS on blu-ray, including the 6 movies. SO many blu-rays, so many hours of marathon. I definitely love this series with all my heart; especially with the enhanced effects and excellent remastered quality. For a show made in the 60s, the story lines and jokes are universal and still very easy to relate to.  (THIS tumblr post has all of it for download)

I chose McCoy to cosplay because I have some nice blue contacts on the way, and haha I really don't want to wear command gold XD;.

Excited for halloween. I just need to somehow find some workable boots damnit.. Also on my quest to Queen Street for sparkle-embedded black wool, I could not find any, but I got some nice quality wool from Wool House, and I'll attempt at some classy spray glitter to get the right look. Roddenberry.com was absurdly helpful for all the details.

Hopefully I can get this done, or have some costume ready to join in kintaei's cosplay shoot close to Halloween! I really need to wear and get more photos of my cosplays, cause I spend so much time and money on them, and then wear them for a day, get like 1 or 2 pics I'm sort of happy with, and then it gets shoved away. OTL

Anyway those are the cosplay plans for October! Hopefully will have some Labour Day Slayers cosplay photos from Webster's Falls soon!!

Here is a photo Andrew took for now:

NYCC 2012 Con Report

$
0
0
wow so New York Comic Con 2012 is over!! Good points and bad points, but the con itself was great! If I went to it again I would definitely want to wear a sci-fi or comic cosplay! Anyway here is my con report:

THURSDAY

Somehow dragged self out of bed at 5am and the parents drove myself and glayish to the airport for our 8:30am flight. Customs took a long time to get through, but the flight itself was super fast and on time!! Flying is so much better than driving for 10 hours in a car.. although having to smash wigs into a checked suitcase was really not ideal.

Turns out our flight touched down in Newark not too long after chibik3r0's, so he waited around for us and we all shared a cab into the city.

We got to our hotel the Element hotel on 8th & 39th (only about 2 - 3 blocks away from the Javits con centre).

(Not my photo, from google)

chibik3r0 then headed to the metro to get to his hotel further away.

As soon as glayish and I walked in, I spotted izunadrop247 in the lobby, carrying his Son Goku cosplay!

Since we arrived earlier than normal check in, we all had to wait around in the lobby until our room was cleaned and ready for us. It took about half an hour, and then we all rushed up to put our bags down.

WE HAD A KITCHEN O_O;;!! How strange. Anyway the room was hella expensive with just glayish and I, but there was literally no floor space and we only had 1 king bed. So it would have been way to uncomfortable with more people.

Our view was another building, lol.

We then walked around to get some NYC pizza, which was GREAT!! Food always tastes better in the States.

We then hurried back to the hotel to eat (using the plates and forks and stuff provided o_0 in the room). I hurried to get into Son Gohan (Android saga), while izunadrop247 put on his Son Goku cosplay with no problems OTL.

So for NYCC I decided to volunteer for acparadise @ the FUNimation booth.

acparadise only had me booked for Friday / Saturday, but as it happened Henry said he needed me to come work on Thursday at the start of the con, so I re-planned a bunch of meet-ups for that.

We got ready with some time to spare, so the three of us walked over to the Javits centre to see how far it actually was. When we got there I guess things were problematic because Henry was unable to come get me into the showroom ahead of public entry. I had to wait until everything opened at 3pm before I could join the line to be on time.

For the next little while, glayish took photos of me and izunadrop247 in our DBZ cosplay. There were very FEW other people in cosplay that day, so we got stopped for our photos a lot. I also forgot how popular DragonBall Z is in the states!!

When they started letting the public in to the showroom floor, glayish went back to the hotel to finish some things on her Thor cosplay.

izunadrop247 and I joined the line and I used my 4-day pass to get in, heading straight over to the FUNimation booth. Things weren't ready so Henry said to come back in an hour or so.

Roamed the dealer's hall...

Then met up with hentaigirl82 in her Bulma cosplay! I tried to find some decent Star Trek merchandise.. (which was lemon difficult >_< )

Made my way back to the FUNimation booth only to be told I wasn't needed on Thursday OTL....!!! Well didn't have to scramble as much to get to the Javits centre if I had know that damnit. Also, I received a 'Speaker' badge instead of an 'Exhibitor' badge, which doesn't get you into the showroom past the line. So I spent more time in lines than I had expected to, but I got more free time on Thursday than I expected, so that worked out.

I had a great time hanging out with izunadrop247 and hentaigirl82!! We checked out Artist Alley in which I actually found some amazing artwork!!!

(Actually hentaigirl82 and I bought art at the same time from the artist and he mixed up which pieces belonged to who. So I later had to go and correct the switch up...)

Afterwards we went outside and took some photos and video :D

A good Samaritan came outside too, saying he saw us unable to get a full group photo, and did us a service of getting few pics of all of us together *-*

It got dark and none of the cabs I flagged down wanted to take us back to the hotel, saying they were only going 'downtown' OTL... or they did not stop. So izunadrop247 and I walked back to the hotel. (THANK YOU)

Parted ways, and glayish and I ate our left over pizza for dinner and prepared for our cosplays for the next day.

FRIDAY

Yvonne arrived in New York! She was staying at the same hotel and got in too early for her room to be ready so she came to store her stuff in mine. We hung out as I ironed and got my North Italy cosplay on, waiting around for Mike (Rock nam Lee) to call me so I could go give him my 4-day badge he bought off of me.

glayish arrived back to the hotel room and Yvonne came with me as I grabbed some quick lunch from the Mexican restaurant next door to our hotel, since I likely wouldn't have any time to eat anything until after my FUNimation booth time ended (1pm - 4pm).

When we got back up to the room, glayish's new Loki cosplayer (for her Thor) had shown up and was getting dressed.

Mike (Rock nam Lee) finally called and Yvonne and I got a cab over to the convention centre. Got on the phone trying to find where he was, and nearly walked right into him XD;;. Anyway we did the badge thing, and I suddenly had more cash to spend.

Mike + Alex B (his girlfriend), Yvonne and I went into the dealer's and planned doing dinner together, then parted ways to roam around.

Found a Germany! I was actually several inches taller than her, lol (for once), so I crouched down. Actually she had her dad take a pic too, and I'm kind of convinced she was probably 13 - 15 years old X'D... *feels so old*

Friday it got to 1pm and went to the FUNimation booth and Yvonne went to go check out some autograph lines.

So basically what I was doing at the FUNimation booth was showing off the new FUNimation mobile app for smart phone and having people sign up for FUNimation.com accounts (with a free prize raffle as incentive).

...Lawl, now, I don't actually own any Apple or Android technology (lol I know, for shame). I freaked out a bit the night before because I couldn't remember what the hell the youtube walk-through looked like, so I might definitely look fail trying to scroll through shit on a touch screen.

Thankfully, Henry ( acparadise ) let me do the walk-through and sign up on the laptop / website since I was most comfortable on that XD;.

sppandaaa was there as my booth bro!!! (Though a lot younger than expected XD) She wore Chibi Romano, which she portrays oh so well XDD. It was great to actually hang out (even tho we had to help anime fans in between)!! She is one of my fav convention people, and pretty much the only reason I wore Hetalia again XD. I forgot to get a pic of us from Friday OTL.

During the Friday hours, there was no chair to sit at the booth and my chest binding started getting wonky with duct tape in bad places during the last hour, so I'd say that last hour was terrible on a personal note.. lol... but otherwise it was a productive time.

There was one moment where sppandaaa and I were talking to some guy about the app and then while I was mid-sentence he bee-lined away after a Miku cosplayer.

fuck lol so rejected. If I had been wearing a sexy girl cosplay that likely would not have happened damn it!!

chibik3r0 dropped by briefly!! I think that was the only time I saw him at the actual con o_o;;

Afterwards I met up with glayish in a sitting alcove where she and her new Loki were eating. Sat and rested feet a bit, and then texted to find out where Yvonne was.

Apparently Yvonne's thyroid issue was acting up, and so she almost had a fainting spell while trying to find us. We found her and she felt really bad and needed to go back to the hotel. glayish wanted to stay with her random Loki at the con longer. . .

So I walked Yvonne back to the hotel (where she finally got checked into her room). Ripped off that terribly itchy North Italy wig (good grief the amount of hairspray and the number of times I have worn that thing...) and sat and read Yvonne's Phoenix: End Song comic book that featured Emma Frost a lot while Yvonne recovered.

Went back to my room to change out of Italy and re-style my Max wig for the next day. It didn't get too flattened by being in the suitcase, so that was good.

Later on glayish and the Loki came to the hotel room and started getting out of cosplay for our group dinner with the other Canadians who drove down. It was cold outside, so for the walk there the Loki borrowed my coat (I wore 2 on the airplane trip lol;).

Alex B. had chosen the Shake Shack

(Not my photo, from google)

Checking up, we figured out it wasn't a place you could call for reservations. When glayish, Loki, Yvonne and I walked over there and met Alex B. we realised you weren't even guaranteed a table to sit at!! It was basically like a fast food place, but with fresh burgers and shakes.

The line was long, and there was no place to sit, so we kind of awkwardly waited for Mike (Rock nam Lee) and MeltingMirror to show up.

Yvonne went back to the hotel for reasons, and some minutes later Mike and MeltingMirror arrived! Everybody got in line to order while I stalked around hunting for a free table or spot to somehow fit 6 (Mike, Alex B. MeltingMirror, Loki, glayish and I) of us.

Lawl. I totally dived in front of a group of girls waiting for a booth and got it before them. They were so angry. bahah XD;

Anyway we all sat down and ate some good burgers and fries. FOR ONCE A BURGER COOKED TO MEDIUM, LIKE IT SHOULD BE!! The food was great, although the circumstances to getting to dinner and the seating weren't ideal for conversation, it was still a good time. Afterwards well walked around and into some touristy stores, before we parted ways.

Walked back to the hotel with glayish and the Loki.

Started cleaning mess up and ironing my things for the next morning. Yvonne came to our room and asked to talk to glayish outside, so I was stuck doing my ironing, listening to the stranger Loki sit on the bed and talk to their parents' on the phone.

The Loki finally got a call from her roomate, so she started packing to leave. Finally after about an hour or so glayish came back to the room and saw the Loki off. (The Loki also borrowed my coat for her trip in the evening, since she was coming back to change in our room again on Saturday -_-; )

glayish and I went to sleep, with some AWFUL conversation about being L & Light (Death Note). lol.

SATURDAY

UGH SO DIFFICULT TO GET UP.

I dressed into North Italy fast and texted izunadrop247 to meet up. I went outside to try and get a cab, but apparently for just that stretch of 20 minutes there were absolutely no cabs coming down the hotel street......

The thing I feared was having to walk someplace far alone and it ended up happening OTL. It was either walk or be obscenely late trying to find a cab. So I walked and spotted some guy in a Captain America shield hoodie who looked like he was headed for the con, and followed him pretty closely. lol. Oh and that was also the day they decided to close off the street that izunadrop247 and I had walked Thursday night, and turn it into a bazaar of cheap and counterfeit items;;;;;

ffjshsks. Anyway I got to the con and bee-lined for izunadrop247. We joined the MASSIVE line to get into the con centre.

Immediately went to hentaigirl82's booth to fix our art swap problem, only to discover the artist had completely left out the Star Trek 2009 print that had attracted me to his stall in the first place. OTL. Went over to artist alley and made the exchange, and picked up another Enterprise art, cause really why not. His arts were only $10/each ($25 for 3)!! There were a hundred other booths selling shitty anime digital prints for so so much more, with far less than half the talent this guy had. It's reaaaally easy to see why many people scorn the Anime art form because of that.

Anyway, art all swapped up and fixed, izunadrop247 and I went over to the food court where I grabbed some quick food before the Saturday FUNimation booth shift.

BTW, the best cosplay at the con:

RUBY ROD. HAD to take a pic. 5th Element is still fantastic.

So I got to the FUNimation booth and izunadrop247 and I parted ways. I had taken extra strength painkillers beforehand (THANK YOU chibik3r0 !!)[Bad username: chibik3r0),]</lj>.

Saturday passed by so quickly, it was fun!!
(uh wow face is twisted horribly OTL)

I don't think America could resist this England eating delicious burger, lol:

sppandaaa never finished South Italy or Ray Kon (Beyblade) so that failed OTL. If I had known I would have brought other cosplays to wear. Like Military!Hungary which requires no binding! Still I doubt I would have been recognized as 'the one with that video', so I'm glad I brought Italy!

At the end of the shift (4pm), Yvonne and izunadrop247 met me at the booth! Apparently izunadrop247 found Star Trek: TOS phasers, so we ran over there and I bought one!! After that we were racing against the sunset to get some photos in.

I found a fem!Germany 1P while on our way out!

We went outside and met up with glayish and the Loki. The 5 of us walked back to our hotel and I immediately started getting into my Max (Beyblade) cosplay!

Yvonne in her Emma Frost wig (coat covering her cosplay)

We headed out to the streets of NYC to get some quick shots in before the sun went down!

Uh yeah so when these pics were being taken, some scruffy old guy walked by and said he would give me a dollar. This alarmed me, and he interrupted the photo session. We were all very 'WTF' at that. He finally left. We got more photos of Yvonne as Emma Frost!

The Loki had to go meet somebody for dinner, so Yvonne, glayish, izunadrop247 bundled up and went to explore Times Square and broadway and all that @_@!!

We ate dinner at Famous Dave's BBQ

(not my photo, from google)
Thanks so much to izunadrop247 who got the bill!!

In Times Square, they had people dressed up in terrifying (bad) mascot costumes like Elmo, Cookie Monster, and Woody. One cookie monster tried to solicit us for a dollar for having taken a photo with him. APPARENTLY THIS IS A NORMAL THING IN NEW YORK!? LOL. That completely explains that weird man trying to give me money while I was getting photos of my Max cosplay -_-;

The four of us walked off the food around Times Square. Went into the Hershey's store and I bought some chocolate as a gift for some co-workers at home.

We got back to the hotel room, rested for a bit, then I started packing all my cosplays away for the plane ride the next day @_@

SUNDAY

Last run through the dealer's room! Yvonne, glayish and I went for one last go through the dealer's as soon as the con opened.

While in line to get in, I recognized the back of the guy's head in front of me. SAM LAU (Baron Karza)!!!!!!. LOL it's a running joke that we always see Sam at every con we go to, without fail we manage to run into him. Talked with him while we slowly got in to the building.

I took off on my own and power shopped. I managed to finally find somebody who carried the Slayers R-Evolution-R Blu-Ray + DVD full 26 episodes boxset!!! Finally!!

I also got a Star Trek captains shirt, although it's too big (as usual) so it will be used as a uniform for working on cosplay.

I also entered the FUNimation raffle that I had been running on Fri/Sat, although I didn't win ^^;; and I wasn't able to see if I won anything else, since we had to leave so soon.

glayish got me a Kirk x Spock doujin!!!

Now if only I could read Japanese. I bet it's hilarious damnit OTL!!

We ate lunch in the food court (though wow it was bad), and then headed back to the hotel so we could get to the airport.

Going through customs was SOOO much faster than at Pearson. Goddamnit Air Canada!! We were there with over an hour to wait at the gate, and then the flight comes in 30min late. We departed SO much later than we were scheduled to, so we ended up back home at 5pm in the evening. Ugh..

I partook of the inflight movie of Madagascar 3: Europe's Most Wanted. Even with all the delays the plane ride wasn't long enough for me to watch until the very END, but omfg it was pretty good. The Italian sea lion named Stefano with the curly whiskers just... just lol.

The similarities just made it that much better.

That was NYCC for me! I might have another LJ post about certain things.. I dunno maybe.

Now for Halloween @_@

I got some new LJ watchers this past week o_0! What's that about, lol? I was certain LJ was on the decline XD;

Anyway this is still the best way for me to record my going-ons - at least it is until LJ mutates to something unrecognizable and I'm forced to switch over to dreamwidth - so, people are welcome to add me if they want!

Real-life has been hectic and filled with work, the office, award ceremonies, entrepreneurship 101 course, managing booths at job fairs, new employees... etc all that comes with business OTL. Because of that my fandom life has completely suffered.

My art and writing block are still in full force =(

I did manage to draw a few Star Trek (Kirk/Spock) pieces ( 1 | 2 | 3 ), and a quick Halloween Hetalia doodle, but it's been AGES since I just sat down and drew/coloured something with the full of my ability. I'm actually wondering about taking prompts/requests again to get the creative juices flowing.

I HAVE been posting cosplay photos/videos from NYCC tho:

izunadrop247 as Son Goku
me as Son Gohan
camera by: hentaigirl82

lol. XD.

Actually concerning my Max (Beyblade) cosplay from NYCC, some idiot had the nerve to question me why I look paler than in my older photos. What the fuck, seriously, WHAT is peoples' obsession with skin colour and cosplay all of a sudden? It seems like everyone I know has either made a rant or had some kind of opinion forcefully thrust on them. :\

Personally if I'm going to wear a blonde/yellow wig and blue contacts, I'm also gonna use some lighter foundation and powder to make the colours look more natural (as natural as it could be). And a lot of my old photos I have up were never properly exposed; now I tend to post ones that are exposed enough so that I don't have shadowed eyes (since a lot of my wigs have massive bangs/fringe).

I really don't have a problem with people changing their skin tone for cosplay. I don't have a problem with people who are against it either.

BUT the whole movement seems like a reverse 4chan. I've read some of the rants against skin-colour-changing on tumblr. People are still singling out cosplayers and using their photos to mock something they've done. Of course those people are going to reject your opinions, no matter how well-intentioned they may be.

Anyway, I've kind of been struggling back and forth with cosplay as of late. I get into shows and anime very slowly and I'm picky about characters I want to make costumes of!! I think I might be getting too old to be cosplaying little boys now OTL lawl;

That being said:

Upcoming Cosplay Plans

Toronto ComiCon (November 25, 2012)
Doctor Leonard "Bones" McCoy - Star Trek: The Original Series

urgh so I had planned to finish this for Halloween, but I got swamped with work-related activities and the dismal weather made me lazy. So, I'm aiming to finish it for the Hobbystar Toronto Comic con! I bought all my insignia, lieutenant-commander braid, boots, rare medical tricorder toy, phaser toy, communicator toy, wig............... (holy fuck I spent a small fortune; goddamn trek is expensive)

All that's left is to focus on sewing my Starfleet science blue shirt and wool pants.. But, I'm terrified of screwing them up, so I must pattern carefully. Must not look like velour mugatu bait. I never buy commercial patterns cause they are usually too big or ordering from online would take ages to get to Canada -_-.

Katsucon (February 15 - 17)
Ranma Saotome (Girl-Type) - Ranma 1/2

I recently felt all nostalgic and wanted to cosplay Ranma again OTL. Well my previous attempts were pretty crap lol. And I sold my old short sleeve shirt and P-chan XD;... So I'm making a slightly different version than I did before. The colour choice for red wigs has gotten MUCH better these days too o_o. Gonna whip this up.

Nyotalia Austria - Axis Powers Hetalia

LAWDHGhJS I just can't quit Hetalia!!! ;_;! I'm searching for the wig and boots right now.
(Actually, debating between this BURGUNDY WIG and this BROWN WIG to style) Austria's hair always has a purple sheen to it in the comic art, so I like the burgundy for that, but all my fav Austria cosplayers have used dark brown/chestnut wigs...Got the burgundy one

I was contemplating a 3rd more difficult costume to bring to Katsucon too, but I don't want to make something, transport it 700km and only end up wearing it for an hour -_-;; (coughMaxcough)... so I might just pack something old as well.

I entered the FUNimation Halloween Cosplay Contest on FaceBook!
If anybody out there could take a second and click the vote button for my Son Gohan cosplay, that would be fabulous *o*! Feel free to add me on FB as well!!

Movies:

Went and saw SkyFall (new James Bond) movie. It actually didn't impress me much :|. Then again I am not a fan of Daniel Craig at all. It was too angsty and sentimental and lacked the humour and awesome weapons/cars that I enjoyed from previous films. Also, Adele's song was only used in the opening!! Why didn't they use it in at least a refrain?? Geezus. Yeah the villain interrogation was delightfully different (OMGGGggg freaked out in the theater bwah ha ha, no spoilers, hot damn), but still, don't change the formula if it works!!

Finally saw Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter. The fight on top the train greatly surpassed the Bond vs criminal fight on top a train. Badass movie. Loved it. Respectable hero and love story. I think I would be greatly upset if I came across slash for it =_=...

Wreck-It Ralph was delightful. I saw it twice!! Once with glayish and a co-worker, and the second time with jiyoon and glayish. Ffffff I adored the Sgt. Calhoun + Fix-It Felix story line. I normally don't like brat-ish kid characters like Vanellope, but the whole relationship with Ralph and her made the movie very very good. I'm sorry I like shota and May/December romance so I kind of ship it in a what-if way. I think the only way they could ruin that movie is with a sequel.

I ended up drawing an art of Calhoun and Felix, which got a lot of favs @_@!!

If it ain't broke...

Still no Daily Deviation yet, but we're getting there... maybe

Fandom:

I'm actually going to watch new anime!!!! I'm waiting on the Gantz boxset that I got from doing the FUNimation booth with ACP @ NYCC. Still no sign of it in the mail :(....

I'm kind of spread between Hetalia and Star Trek at the moment. Really odd things to be into at the same time probably XDD.

It's been a year since my mom got me Star Trek: TOS on Blu-Ray and my dad got me the 6 movies boxset. Watched it ALL!! All the news (or LACK thereof, should I say) about the 2013 movie Star Trek into Darkness is making me super frustrated harghhh. Need more Trek. The rebooted cast is just completely different though, it's not the same even if the effects, fight scenes, and film quality are technically better -- the original stuff is so good it just doesn't matter. (Except The Motion Picture, other than the new music, that was just plain bad.)

I want to get started on The Next Generation now that it's out on Blu-Ray. I remember watching that series on standard definition as a kid with my dad, but it's been a long time, and I couldn't appreciate it as I would now, I think. First Contact is still one of my favourite movies ever (saw it in theater hell yea). Out of all the shows, I remember DS9 and Voyager the best. Voyager is probably the only Trek I watched in entirety on TV. I never could get used to Enterprise's theme song.

Still you don't get another crew like the TOS one. So funny. And Kirk + Spock is just legendary damnit. If it's one thing I'm looking forward to with the Star Trek into Darkness movie, it's more Kirk + Spock fanfiction and music videos @_@!!!!

[/gush]

Hetalia is coming out with a 5th season!!!!!!!!! They switched animation studios too, so the art is already looking a million times better than Studio DEEN's.

The only thing I dislike about this is that my Italy cosplay is now inaccurate. Because I made it Studio DEEN anime accurate ;_;!! The new colours and style wouldn't be flattering on me at all. Light blue with pilot style pants, and blazing orange hair. Damn. I've already worn Italy too many damn times it's falling apart. Must not let this become an excuse to remake it. Haha

Also, all my artwork colours are based off the anime -_-... But a change could be inspiring, maybe. I have a queue of Hetalia arts thanks to the requests on my devART journal. Those will keep me occupied this winter ^^

I'm excited for the new animation with Hetalia tho... I really hope they'll actually tackle some more of the actually POPULAR strips. Buon San Valentino PLEASE damnit!!!! OTL

I haven't read any Hetalia fanfiction in ages. I get fed up trying to search for quality stuff so in the end I just don't bother. I might end up looking for rec lists instead. (I've gotten interested in Hungary x Prussia thanks to the 4th season)

Conventions & Cosplay:

I recently updated my cosplay collage from 2001 - 2012.

Techno's Cosplay Collage
 by ~TechnoRanma on deviantART

Compared to other people's progression, I've improved somewhat.. but I realised I make shitty fabric choices that still make my cosplay look cheapass not matter how much better my sewing and crafting skills have gotten :/

I wish I could go back and redo pretty much all of them.

guh I also have to move on from Gohan, lol. still doesn't stop me from raging over other Gohan cosplayers tho. And learn to make different expressions without them being fugly. And actually ask more of the awesome photographers I know for photoshoots OTL.

I recently made it a resolution (goal, even) to stop cosplaying if it becomes dependent on other people (especially if they don't care enough to finish :/ ). I think I broke the goal ALREADY though, because I added fem!Spain to my roster for a photoshoot/dinner with Kaiser-Mony as fem!France.
spainn

I reeaaally hope that that doesn't fizzle out =(((. It happened a lot this year, with Max (Beyblade), I was supposed to wear that with a Mariam (Beyblade), and then a Ray (Beyblade), and all that failed. I also invited another person to cosplay fem!Germany when I was re-wearing fem!Italy for photos. TWICE she didn't bother to finish. People suck. It's a hobby, YES, I know that, but it's happened far too often to me. I hate having to be the 'understanding' one. Groups have just become too stressful and disappointing to me. [/woe]

As of everything else I've planned for 2013 though, I'm making it all without ANY delusions of cosplay partners/friends \O/.

Hobbystar Toronto ComiCon (November 25th, 2012)
GOING because the location is the Fairmont Royal York *-*! Looks like they've only booked the Imperial Room, but that's already a vast improvement on the shitty metro convention centre security and tiny rooms they usually get. Hobbystar's Comic-cons tend to be much better run than their Anime-cons.
Costume: Doctor Leonard McCoy "Bones" (Star Trek: TOS)
Got my cosplay mostly finished! (Just need to take in & install zippers in the boots because they were too baggy at the calf)

 u5 u2

After finishing all of TOS I really wanted to make a costume. Damned addictive sci-fi. I decided on McCoy because I can kind of relate to his cantankerous disposition. He complains but he gets the job done. McCoy also has all my favourite quotations in the series. I know I'll probably get grief for the cross-play but whatever, I didn't want to do Uhura because I wanted pants. Actually I've seen more men dress as Uhura than I've seen women so maybe there's something that can be inferred there lol I dunno Kirk and Scotty are my favourite TOS characters, but I'd have to change my build too much for that.

u8

As it happens I DID have to build myself a pair of man-shoulders anyway. My actual shoulders are only about 15" across, so for most male cosplay I have to load up on shoulder pads. I think I ended up making my trousers a bit shorter than I planned OTL. Proportion wise it makes me look taller, but.. fuck;; What an amateur mistake. They're more 'Kirk' length.

Hobbystar Toronto AnimeCon (December 9th, 2012)
VERY unlikely I'll be able to go... I have another stupid gala to go to with my parents (that makes at least 5 I've attended already this year). More dry chicken or salmon and steamed veggies. Joy.
Location is in the North Building basement area. I just have horrible memories of getting chain fenced in and yelled at by security. It will most likely not be any different this time around. Cosplay wise I thought about wearing fem!Italy again, because I know of a few Nyotalia cosplayers who might show up(???) but I don't want to be disappointed again, so if for some reason I CAN make it, I was thinking of re-wearing something else.
Costume: ---

December Dinner Photoshoot (December 2012)
Location and date unknown! Dinner, snowy, sparkly nyotalia photoshoot. *crosses fingers for Jess, Andrew, and Karen as amazing photographers!*
Costume: fem!Spain
First time I'm doing a costume without a coloured ref @_@;... I've never been that creative, so I'm gonna try my best on fabric choice and all.

Katsucon (February 14th - 17th, 2013)
Driving down and staying in the Gaylord Hotel with Rock nam Lee and his gf Alex B. (same as Katsucon 2012!)
The Gaylord is a gorgeous hotel right smack dab in the tourist area of the National Harbour. I think it's become my fav anime convention, if only for the fact that the location is just so nice and also the cosplayers who go to it are quality! I decided to get my anime on with some cosplays I've wanted to do!

Costume: Ranma (Girl-type, season two orange shirt + red bowtie)
Comfort for late night anime viewing and when I'm on downtime. My new red base wig came in!!

u6 u1

The colour should suit me much better than the old one I had (lol see collage.) "Apple Red" from Wig Fashion. Tentatively wearing it Friday while I check out panels and events. I have a ThorKi photoshoot that I'm actually shooting for on Friday, too O_o!!! (Thor = glayish, Loki = Terene) This means I'll likely bring my tripod and try to claim a nice spot. Occasionally I can take a nice picture lol;;

Costume: Fem!Austria (Nyotalia)
Probably all of Saturday. Got my boots and my base wig(s) came in!!

IMG-20121112-00365 u3

I say "wig(s)" because I bought 2 of the same kind. MY HEAD IS BIG. I need twice the amount of wig fiber to cover it, lawl. I figured it would just look better thicker, considering I need to restyle the hairline/bangs and add braids. LOVE the colour. It shines a bit reddish under dim lighting more than I like, but for every other lighting it's a very nice burgundy/brown *o*/ I'm going to style it and then if it comes down to it I can airbrush the colour slightly. I don't think I'll need to tho.

Austria is #3 on my fav Hetalia characters XD. (Behind Italy & Germany). I used to role-play him. I hate glasses though, so I never wanted to cosplay him. His Nyotalia design doesn't have any glasses, and the outfit is something different I've not really made before, so I definitely wanted to do it when the design came out.

I posted this on my tumblr and it turns out my friend Letelle has been working on a Mangary (male!Hungary) so she said she might try to finish it for Katsucon as well! That would be an added bonus *-*

Hobbystar March Toronto Comicon (March 9th - 10th, 2013)
Costume: ???

Star Trek into Darkness (May 17th, 2013)
Costume: Doctor McCoy (TOS) (???)
Part of me wants to troll the line-up by being in the TOS version uniform, and another part of me wants to make a reboot accurate one :L (perhaps a different character depending). I'll likely be making some uniforms (at least the shirts) for my parents as well.

Anime North (May 24th - 26th, 2013)
Costumes: Re-wear fem!Austria (???)
I want to enjoy Anime North again ;o;. Last two years I haven't really done much at the con, only going for partial days. I wouldn't mind competing another year for old times sake either. If only to sit and talk in the greenroom without getting kicked out lol. Running out of relevant things to make though. And steadily getting to the point where I recognize NOTHING in the masquerade or what people are cosplaying in the hall. [/old timer]

FanExpo (August 22nd - 25th, 2013)
Costumes: Re-wear McCoy
Nothing planned so far. I was thinking to re-wear McCoy for one day (since I spent a small fortune on all the accoutrements). Apparently Rae (Ray Kon from our Bladebreakers group & Butch from our Team Rocket group) and her husband James (Boris from our season 1 Beyblade group), are going to do Kirk + Spock ... :O!!!! So if they show up as such I'd love a photo with them. I'm anticipating some Trek at least due to the 2013 movie. (hope it's good fhfhf)

At some point I'd like to do that Princess Amelia dress (Slayers TRY) that's been on my list. With the amount of fabric I'd have to buy I wouldn't want to screw it up, so we'll see how my sewing skills fair before I tackle that.

I also want to do more Sailor Moon!!! The new rebooted anime is supposed to come out in 2013, so I want in ;_;. Also gives me some more thinspiration.

I want to stick another U.S. convention in the summer too. Need to research on a couple and plane ticket prices and all that.

I RECENTLY GOT SHOWCASED ON COSPLAY.COM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Seriously excited and totally healed my bruised ego for coming in 2nd after a FMA photo in the FUNImation Halloween contest

So much love for the admin there!! I'm not certain who does the showcases (I think it's JiaJem ?? <333 ) but I'm so grateful. OTL!!!!

Been burned by the cosworx store (now cosplay.com shopping) shipping and wrong orders in the past, but this is kind of seducing me back to them a whole lot.

 <--- seduced expression

I'm thinking before the year is up I will make a new sales post to get rid of all the stuff I still have laying around. I just didn't sell certain things because I was holding out for wearing them again with groups n' people. But so far that line of thinking has just left me hanging, so I'm getting rid of it ALL. If people will buy.

Katsucon 2013 Con Report

$

0

Well it's been a week, this is my Katsucon 2013 con-report! Katsucon is where I've gotten a lot of my favourite photos taken and it did not disappoint this time. I kind of overdid it by bringing 4 cosplays (3 on friday, 1 on saturday) to wear ^^;;;;. I should really just stick to 2 per con, cause we ended up rushing around for cosplay changes there was barely a spare minute to just hang out with our friends and talk with people from online.  Anyway it was still a FABULOUS con & trip!

Thursday

glayish and I met up with Alex B. and Mike (EleventhPhotograph) - our roomies & roadtrip buddies from Katsucon 2012!! We had had such a great time in the car and room with them the previous year that we decided to do it again. We left Toronto around 9:30am and then started the long trip down to Maryland. The weather was really ideal for the drive!! We got into Maryland around 7pm and promptly got lost in the DC area. We ended up on an unintentional scenic nighttime tour by car of the white house, Lincoln memorial, and other monuments. I have to say we were all kind of OK with the getting-lost bit, because the area is really impressive at night.

On our way to the Gaylord hotel, since it was Valentine's Day, we all played an amusing game of spotting men-walking-with-flowers, CVS pharmacies, and Starbucks', to rack up points. There were multiples on every corner, lololol.

We got into the hotel around 8pm and glayish and I immediately went to get our badges from pre-reg. Ran into izunadrop247 right away lol XD. And so began a long night of ironing and preparing cosplays! ....I tried to buy coke for energy and of course the Gaylord switched to carrying pepsi products instead of coca-cola, so I was severely disappointed by that =_=. (they do taste different.)

Friday

Friday morning was Nyotalia~

I cosplayed as the official female (nyotalia) version of Austria.

My friend Lettelle who I know from a few Otakon and Katsucon's ago made Mangary (male!Hungary)!! She looked so good! I'm sooo happy she finished it!! I was so excited to actually meet up with somebody for couple cosplay. That literally never happens to me lol XD. People usually fail and bail out. She was wonderful though, so glad!!

aushungdance2

We also later on got a Nyotalia Prussia!!

meinvitalregions1meinvitalregions2meinvitalregions3
aushungstandprussiaaustria

I had seen Thornprick as fem!Prussia at Katsucon 2012 last year, and since I was wearing fem!Austria this year I bugged her to bring it again ^^. Unfortunately we couldn't do a longer shoot because of timing....I wish we had had longer to wear it together but we did get pics and vids!!

Many thanks to glayish for the photography and videos!

triwalk
triwalk2

With finishing fem!Spain and fem!Austria I've pretty much completed all the Hetalia cosplays I was interested in.... Am I really Hetalia'd out o_o;;;!?! Well I still did want to do the rest of the versions of Italy 2P.............

I still love and am currently watching the show. But it seems like the cosplay scene is phasing out and Homestuck is taking over lol. (I still don't know what Homestuck is). Anyway, if the opportunity comes up I will re-wear something I have already made (Military!Italy, Gakuen!Italy, Military!Hungary, Nyotalia 1P Italy, Nyotalia Spain, Nyotalia Austria). I WAS planning to sell Military!Hungary a while ago but I never did. I'm not sure how eager somebody would be to buy that now, but I might put it up for sale, who knows fwahhh.

Anyway, after the Nyotalia Frying Pangle parted ways, around 3pm glayish and I ran back up to the hotel room and started changing into Star Trek~*~*~*!

Our Star Trek group was so cute!!! The tribbles totally made it less lame XD.

hentaigirl82 as Lt. Uhura
izunadrop247 as Lt. Sulu
glayish as Captain Kirk
technoranma (me!) as Doctor McCoy "Bones"

trek1trek2

We were missing a Spock, Chekov, and Scotty!!! (Mostly a Spock).

TO BE HONEST all the photos I've seen of myself as Doctor McCoy from Katsucon make me cringe cause I pretty much just slapped some man-make-up on top of my fem!Austria make-up, then stuffed the wig on my head. Lol;; looked so wrecked. I should have spent the time to just redo and prepare it all -_-. Also halfway through I realised my eyebrows had been shaved off the last con I wore McCoy to, so this time I had to do some weird cover-up on my thick black eyebrows -_-;;;..........Oh and I got called Spock. That is seriously the part that ignites my ire. At LEAST 3 people got it right though, so I'm happy about that.

We hung out and went to dinner (thanks for getting the bill, Captain Kirk!!). Richard (hentaigirl82's bro who did the full group pics and vids for us) bought me and glayish some rose bouquets since it was Valentine's Day weekend and they were selling them at the restaurant!! <3 <3 <3

We headed back into the convention centre and met up with a few people from past conventions we hadn't seen in forever. SOMEHOW glayish managed to talk to a Frolo cosplayer who said she would be wearing Spock on Saturday Night o_o;...!!! Space Husbands confirmed for Saturday night! Uhura had to go get ready for clubbing, so we all parted ways and got ready for the 18+ programming.

I got into fem!Spain and the group of us from the room went down to the registration area to get the 18+ wristbands. We wandered around looking in the doors at the panels going on, but they all seemed weird and uh... yeah, so we hung out in the lobby while I tried to meet up with darth_teca.  It was getting boring in the lobby so we ended up going back to the hotel room and tried to stay awake for the Friday night Hetalia: Ask a Nation 18+ panel.

darth_teca came around in her Indiana Jones America cosplay! We went together to go line up for the Ask a Nation panel. Ughhh 1:30am was not a good time to decide to attend something. Just felt real tired all around, and then we got kinda shitty seats (couldn't really see the panelists). The questions people were asking sucked lol. glayish's question was good though because it had to do with a Japan/Germany/Italy threesome XD. The only nations that were present for the panel were Prussia, Germany, Switzerland, Spain, England, Austria.. I'm not sure if there was another, I couldn't see >_<! Kind of a weird mix of nations, I always prefer it more when they have the main cast. Anyway, we decided to duck out a bit early and get to sleep because glayish would need to be getting her Zelgadis make-up and prosthetics on in the morning.

Saturday

Despite having gone to sleep after 2am, I was awake and showered at 7:30am -_-... why? Because glayish decided her side of the bed was cold and kept migrating over to my side until I was having to sleep on the bedside table!!!1.. >_<. I just got up and angrily inched the block-out curtains open a little bit more in 5 minute intervals so everyone else would wake up.

glayish started to get into her Zelgadis around 9:30am. It's a long process so I started getting into Amelia AFTER her and finished long before she was. My make-up was looking WAYYYYY better for Amelia than it was for my 3 cosplays the day before -_-;;.. See this is why I should only do 1 cosplay a day at most. Also, the vintage boots from Star Trek the night before had squeezed my feet and I had blisters forming, so I wrapped bandaids around all of my toes to prevent more pain -_-;

Anyway, s
ince glayish has trouble eating with the prosthetics on her face, I decided to go downstairs to the atrium cafe to get some food for us to eat before she had to put it on.

I went up to hentaigirl82's room to borrow eye drops (thank you!!), then took the elevator down.

And so began the day where the Jewish Youth Convention (which Katsucon 2013 was double-booked with) started to be annoying.

The elevator I chose stops on floor 2, and while I had no problems using that elevator the day before, this time a Jewish Youth staffer immediately rushed me and told me I wasn't allowed there and had to go back up and take another set of elevators. OK............... I just gave her a disgruntled look and then stared at the SHARED convention space that was literally less than 5m away from the elevator door.

Staff/Security: "Sorry, I know it's retarded"

SO, I had to go back up in the elevator then make my way around the labyrinth of the Gaylord to find the right stairwell and walk down. The line for the cafe was packed, and the whole time there were some guys just behind me complaining OVER AND OVER how Katsucon turned into a cosplay convention and all the panels suck now. Bah.

There were actually people at the con who knew who I was cosplaying as!!! I got a lot of pleasant "Amelia!" shouts ^^. Slayers is a 90s anime and was never televised in the U.S. or Canada so when glayish and I wore Zelgadis and Amelia to Anime North, nobody really recognized us OTL;.

Got us some food and then immediately bee-lined for an elevator. Any journey in the elevators was inevitably filled with stupid comments from either katsucon attendees or the jewish youth attendees. Really just annoying. That was the extent to how personally bothered I got by the double-booking though. So it didn't ruin anything horribly for me. There was one tense moment where some bitter woman (katsucon attendee) started laying in on some little girl (maybe 15 at most) from the jewish convention for using one of 'our elevators', ranting about how 'we' weren't allowed to use 'theirs' so why was she here, etc etc.

We ate our food in the room and then headed down to the autograph area to line up for Crispin Freeman's autograph session (the voice of Zelgadis). glayish had paid for a VIP badge so we got to the head of the line. While in the line I met someone who worked with Funimation/industry who offered to do a quick shoot with us if we wanted!! That was great because we wouldn't be wearing it for long, and I think photos turn out better when the photographer is also familiar with the series. glayish got her sword (that I bought from aerialdown) signed by Crispin Freeman AND he took our photo!!

555764_345961682185909_365124063_n

We walked around the con and found Sam Lau (Baron Karza)! Chatted with him for a while, which was hilarious XD. We met up with the photographer from the Crispin Freeman line and ventured outside to take a few pics (even though that wind chill was not fun OTL!!!!)

After that we hung out and meet up with SmileJade Photography whom I had booked a quick shoot with before the con. I'm excited to see what she manage to get of us, since I've admired her photography skills for a long time now!!

The sun started to go down, so we went back to the room where glayish changed out of Zelgadis and we ordered pizza & wings room service. Mmm Gaylord room service.

I tried to watch TV but ours got stuck on this one image. LOL;;;

I just hung out taking videos of myself while my make-up still held up. And with my glow orbbbbb.

amelia2

The Spock we had met the night before was supposed to show up soon, so glayish got back into her Captain Kirk cosplay. I didn't bother to get into McCoy because I was worried our science blues would not match (they didn't), and we didn't really have anyone to take OT3 shots anyway. So Space Husbands!

I was the photographer/video for them!

ks1ks2
ks3ks4
WE TOTALLY GOT SPACE HUSBANDS ALL OVER OUR ROOMMATES' BED;;;; XDDD

ANyway I don't have an external flash or half the set up that it seems EVERY other photographer at Katsucon had... so I just switched to video in order to get the HD night shots. Very bold and spacey.

trekk1trekk2

After that we parted ways from the Spock. glayish and I tried to hit up the AMV playing at 10pm, but apparently they didn't have the right HDMI cable to play ANYTHING so the entire panel sat in darkness. We stayed for 30min before leaving because there was no video IN ALL THAT TIME. LAME!!!!!

On our way to other programming we ran into grayhour and Kate, and I spotted Thornprick (the fem!Prussia I got photos with before) in her Military!Hungary outfit. We all followed her to her 10:30pm Hetalia: Ask a Nation panel. This panel was WAAAAY better than the other uncensored Ask a Nation panel, though there was a lot of USA/Canada and Germancest fanservice stuff and I don't ship those pairings AT ALL, so that ruined my happiness.

After it was over Thornprick gave me a rose! *o* So nice and princely XD!!
IMG-20130216-00525

We sat in for a bit of the 'Dramatic Fanfic Readings' panel, but soon my contact lenses (over almost 18hrs) started to really bother me, so we left the panel and went back to the room to sleep.

Sunday

Alex B.'s artist alley booth closed at 3pm, so we ended up staying until around 4:30pm to pack up the car and have food before the drive back. The amount of people checking out meant the wait for a bus & dolley service was LOONG. So we ended up packing the several exorbitantly heavy bags onto our own backs and carrying them down OTL. The Jewish convention space did not allow anyone to use the hallway close to the parking garage (R@GE!) so we had to carry our stuff ALL THE WAY AROUND from the front entrance to the back. After carrying all that weight (TORTURE ARGHH) I swear I need to learn to pack lighter to a convention. Holy shit.

We went around and bought a few things from the dealers room. Including some more Star Trek merchandise XD

IMG-20130222-00533

One merchant tried to sell me a Hetalia notebook by saying "It's cute and your can write your homework down in it." ... OTL;.. I just said that I don't have homework anymore because I work. Fail at looking 10 years younger than my age. Oh well really;;

The drive back was fun because of roadtrip buddies, but at the end of it, it was really tiring. We got back home at exactly 3am.

GREAT con. Had a wonderful time. The only thing I wish is that we had been able to use the Gazebo during the morning to get photos, and that I had been able to spend longer with people/friends. The food in the National Habour was delicious as usual, and the rooming situation was ideal. Great time. \O/!

Ok so my new dream cosplay is to make a fully loaded Star Trek: The Wrath of Khan uniform. I wanted to attempt this for FanExpo 2013 but only if I have the time to do it. Otherwise I think I want to go to a Trek convention (Las Vegas) in 2014 :'D... The official patterns seem like the way to go to save time/money in the long run.. (considering how much I'll have to spend on fabric to make sure it looks right) I figured it couldn't hurt to put these up as potential b-day gifts too ^_^;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;!!!!!!!

Wigs & Wefted Extensions (Styled and unstyled)

Item:SSJ2 Gohan Wig
Series: Dragon Ball Z
Condition: Excellent
Description: Worn once for Otakon 2009. Wig colour is 613 Blonde with faint airbrushing of yellow for spike definition. Built over a 3D frame of EZ felt, it defies gravity easily and only needs a bit of hairspray to keep everything sharp and defined without getting crushed. Shipping: $25.00 within Canada, $35.00 to USA, $37.50 International

ranmasaotome_wig
Item: Ranma Saotome (Girl-Type)
Series: Ranma 1/2
Condition: Excellent
Description: LOVE this wig, I'm sad to part with it. The only reason I am selling it is because the red colour is too bright to look good with my darker skin tone. Pig tail can be unbraided and re-braided around the permanent stiff wire to keep it's neatness.
Asking Price:$35.00$25.00
Shipping: $8.00 within Canada, $10.00 to USA, $15.50 International

Item:Kenny / Kyouju
Series: Bakuten Shoot Beyblade (season 1)
Condition: Good
Description: The wig started as an auburn punky. Glasses were made from two magnifying glasses, painted on the back and wired into the wig netting. The glasses can be removed by unlacing the wire (no glue involved). There is no stiff under structure in this wig, so spikes need to be lightly combed and hair-sprayed prior to each wear to keep looking pristine (easy).
Asking Price: $20.00
Shipping: $8.00 within Canada, $10.00 to USA, $15.50 International

Item:Jessie / Musashi
Series: Pokemon
Condition: Great
Description: Team Rocket! HEAVY WIG. Do not wear for more that 4hrs at a time, your neck and scalp will begin to hurt. The structure is craft foam and styrofoam, base wigs were (2) Cosworx Amanda wigs. Berry / Fushia colour is sharpie dyed to match the colour from the early anime seasons. There is a slit in the wig netting for the wearer to stick a toothed hairband through. Wig requires a mesh wig cap to be worn, and then when putting on the wig  he toothed hairband must dig in to hold steady. Use spirit gum or some other theatrical adhesive along the hairline (forehead, temples, neck) wig fibers to your skin for better hold. (Wig cap, hairband and spirit gum NOT included)
Asking Price: $250.00
Shipping: $30.00 within Canada, $35.00 to USA, $45.50 International

Item:Heero Yuy

Item:Yugi Muto
Series: Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters
Condition: Excellent
Description: This is a Yugi (NOT Yami/Atem) wig that I spent many hours making. The hair line was completely altered (both on the forehead and for the neck). All hair is built onto a stiffened felt frame so spikes will not deflate. Wefts were glued on top so the wig fiber still appears to be soft instead of gelled solid. All that is required is some light hairspray to keep fly-aways from happening in the wind.
Asking Price: $300.00
Shipping: $25.00 within Canada, $30.00 to USA, $40.50 International

My Yugi costume that I finished for Otakon 2011. The jacket is lined with white and the popped collar is reinforced with a stiff interfacing. Fabric is a nice blue twill. Trousers have extra fabric in the hem so the pants length can be let out for a longer leg. Custom belts are kept in place with velcro and temporary sewing which can be removed easily if desired. All collar, wristbands, and belts were sewn and hand studded by me. (Black shirt and shoes not included).
Sizes: 32"-25"-36"

SUPER COMFORTABLE! I love this costume, I'm sad to part with it. Pink under clothes made from stretchy pink jersey with hand sewed orange/yellow cuffs. Purple over clothes made from the same stretchy jersey material. The shirt has no closure notions; the mandarin collar is made a bit bigger to stretch over your head. The sash is required to tie tightly around the waist to keep the skirt in place. Boots are light snow boots with maroon twill fabric sewn/glued on top.
Sizes: 36"-25"-36"
Asking Price: $70
Shipping: $15.00 within Canada, $20.00 to USA, $25.50 International

Item:Amelia wil tesla Seyruun
Series: Slayers NEXT
Condition: Great
Description:
(1) Right side bracelet
(2) Left side bracelet
(3) Necklace
(4) Princess tiara
(5) Pair of pink boots --- Size 6.5
(6) Gown
(7) Shoulder pauldrons
(8) Cape
Slayers NEXT Princess Amelia dress and accessories. The bracelets are my old attempt and the gems are painted rubber balls. The boots are slouchy style made from a soft pink parquet fabric over a pair of heels with a nice cushioned insole. The necklace and tiara were crafted from craft foam, jewels, wire and paint. The gown is made from a matte satin. The shoulder pauldrons were formed out of wonderflex and covered with a nice shiny red lamé fabric. Shoulder paudrons and cape have an elastic system to hold them on. I LOVED this outfit but the dress doesn't fit me anymore and I've already gotten some nice photos in it; it's too much trouble to go back and trying to take the form in.
Sizes: 34"-26"-36"
Asking Price: $150
Shipping: $30.00 within Canada, $40.00 to USA, $55.50 International

Item:Bulma Briefs / Playboy Bunny outfit
Series: DragonBall
Condition: Great
Description:
(1) Bunny ears
(2) Bunny suit --- 34"-25"-36"
(3) Two White Cuffs
(4) Collar + Bowtie
To be honest the bunny suit is not put together that well. It is made from a black parquet fabric with a strapless bra sewn in for the bust. There is one zipper up the back. There is no 'boning'. My construction of this was basically strips of plastic canvas in place of where boning should have gone to keep the shape. It still holds up, but it's really not a professional quality at all. The fluffy white tale was hand sewed on to the back. The bunny ears / headband are made from a frame of wonderflex and I sewed the parquet fabric on to make the final bunny shape. Because the frame is wondeflex, you could heat the ears (carefully) and re-mold the floppy curve if you don't want it the way it is now. (Tights, Wig, Shoes, Cufflinks not included)
Sizes: 34"-25"-36"
Asking Price: $50
Shipping: $13.00 within Canada, $15.00 to USA, $25.50 International

Stream of vitriol about Star Trek into Darkness. Contains spoilers and my burning ridicule. Don’t bother reading and commenting if you’re just going to try and debate me and change my mind to see some positive. I will say upfront I DID see positive things and there were some scenes/characterizations I liked, but that’s not what this is about. This is about how feeble on the whole this film’s main characters and story really are. It deserves to be viciously picked apart. ESPECIALLY since I ended up paying a lot of money pre-ordering tickets back in FEBRUARY for this bullshit.

Before I start, I must say that in general I’m not even as enraged as I think I should be because the film was just so ridiculous. It was like an awful parody. I guess the main reaction I had after viewing was just.....  “Was that it? I did not enjoy that.”

First minor complaints:

Portable trans-warp beaming thing which is the plot device for ‘John Harrison’ to beam out of his failing aircraft on Earth to a hide-away on Quo’Nos (Klingon Homeworld).

Um. What? The transporter is the most powerful device on a star ship (after the warp core).  It literally breaks you down into your individual atoms and then reassembles your sequence at specific co-ordinates. If the transporter is not working properly, crazy things happen (pick your episode). Somehow ‘John Harrison’ has a portable one. Even in the 24th century (The Next Generation), they rely on a ship’s transporter system. They are unable to beam somebody from one planet to another planet (Quo’Nos is over a hundred light years away btw). What. Lol hurr, if we had that why would we even have ships???

Somehow a PORTABLE device like this exists and ‘Harrison’ has it.

More technology inconsistencies in the film...

Chekov is unable to beam Spock & “Khan” up because they are moving? And yet he is able to beam Uhura down ONTO a moving target? This is essentially the same thing? It went unexplained.

But wait, wasn't Chekov able to lock on and beam Kirk & Sulu up while they were in free-fall in ST:2009? Does that not constitute moving objects? Has Chekov regressed in skill? Whatttttttttttt

And WHY IS CHEKOV MADE CHIEF ENGINEER?........ He in an ENSIGN. And in *COMMAND* STREAM. Wouldn't, I don’t know, an actual ENGINEER from ENGINEERING be more capable?

Bones and the torpedo/vessel. How the fuck can you not distinguish between a STATIONARY ORGANIC LIFE SIGNATURE and an artificial vessel? I suppose there are excuses for this, like, oh the armed torpedo is emitting frequencies which are garbling McCoy’s signature, or there’s another life signature in the torpedo and it’s undistinguishable from McCoy’s. Both those explanations are quickly thought up and possibly acceptable, but we got no explanation again. Just “oh I can’t do it!! *unecessary tension and danger because every scene must either have that or sex appeal, nobody should ever pull something off easily because they are capable lols*”

Also, this is really not a huge issue, but it still pisses me off that the reboot has embraced some junky looking ‘bullet’ phaser fire. It’s not as fearsome as an un-dodgeable particle beam of vaporising energy.

“Khan’s” blood. GENETIC ENHANCEMENT OF HUMAN DNA DOES NOT MAKE BLOOD/PLASMA MAGICAL.

On that note...

Major abysmal complaints:

I don’t even know where to start with “Khan”. Maybe with the fact that from day one J.J. Abrams outright lied and said that Cumberbatch was not playing Khan? And over and over they covered that up. For what? To keep it a secret so that they don’t spoil the fact that Into Darkness is just a parody of Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan? How are you supposed to feel when it’s revealed that the studio was lying all along lol enjoy ur surprise villain.

I don’t know why people seem to be so in awe of nu!Khan either? The character did not inspire me that he was great and better enough to be admired or even really feared.

And, even though JJ kept saying OVER and OVER that this movie was not for Star Trek fans, they undermined THAT by having Spock Prime show up in some shitty webcast and explain “yes you should be really afraid of this Khan dude because he is the most serious bad guy who was the most dangerous ever to the enterprise”. Shouldn’t we be able to infer that from the story on its own without having to be fed this ‘oo be afraid I kno the future, rememberrr the classic, Simbaaaaa’ garbage??

(Way to make Spock Prime the source of info AGAIN... Nero, anyone? Let’s not have the crew actually learn anything for themselves y’know.)

Do I even have to mention how they took many shitty liberties with Khan? MAGICAL BLOOOOOOOOD. This was probably Lindelof’s crappy contribution amirite? Much like the hateable black goo from Prometheus, Khan’s blood has properties that don’t make any human biological sense whatsoever.

Also, I suppose Nero travelling back in time to the day of Kirk’s birth (March 22, 2233) changed ALL OF PREVIOUS EARTH HISTORY, because Khan Noonien Singh, Ruler and Leader of ¼ of the Earth during the 1990s Eugenics Wars, is totally a white British terrorist dude with magic blood now. Even though he was frozen those 3 centuries ago. And Nero should not have affected him.

*Granted I remember it was news that JJ and co were in talks with Benicio del Toro for the part of the villain in STID (looking for another Latino actor to match the original actor who originally portrayed the North Indian Super-Man). I remember they did not hire him because he wanted too much money. I’m kind of curious how much Cumberbatch was paid in comparison.*

Still it’s really really REALLY shitty to have such a great role (well, Khan USED to be great) cast so inappropriately. It’s like lying and lying that Uhura will not be in the movie, and then the white-skinned/blue eyed officer on the bridge goes ‘My real name is Uhura’. That’s how jarring it is. Really? Really am I to believe this guy is named Khan Singh? And there is no explanation; again they leave us to assume something to excuse lousy writing.

*Apparently Cumberbatch did a blind audition for the role; meaning he had no idea who exactly he would be playing, and he was not privy to the script. So I can’t fault him as the actor. He performed as he was able. I’m not a big fan of the performance, but he did the work. Not that that means much to me, as I've never watched Star Trek for the ACTING quality. I AM, however, quietly furious that JJ kept such a thing in the dark to everyone. Into Darkness indeed.*

Not only that, but nu!Khan’s motives for revenge seem so flimsy... We are to empathise with his crew held hostage and his manipulation under Admiral Marcus? And yet we’re supposed to fear him and his ideals? I find it extremely frustrating that nu!Khan is someone who wants to/(has?) committed genocide on people he deems inferior. I’m left assuming he distinguishes superiority in terms of a person’s enhanced blood and genes, whereas the original Khan deemed Lt. McGivers of the Enterprise a superior woman because of her determination and loyalty (no eugenics to speak of & loyalty not to HIMSELF, but to Captain Kirk). It’s the death of McGiver’s (whom Khan loved) and most of his crew/fellow super humans on Alpha Ceti V that spurred his quest for revenge in TWOK. Not that it softens original Khan’s villainy at all; it makes it human and mad all at the same time. This re-write is just REALLY lame.

Also.

I don’t like Nu!Kirk. At all. In fact, he’s pretty useless.

Which... is something that really REALLY hurts to say because Captain Kirk from Star Trek: The Original Series is my absolute favourite character out of the entire Star Trek continuum (TOS, TNG, VOY, DS9, ENT...). The way they have beaten him down and made him unrecognizable just enrages me...

Logically, from a character and hero building angle, Into Darkness should have been about Jim Kirk’s worth as a captain.

Into Darkness just made Kirk worthless! I couldn't think of one solid reason we are shown WHY any of the crew should respect Nu!Kirk as their captain of the Starship Enterprise.

With ST:2009, you could possibly excuse the changes made to Kirk. Sacrificial father, implied absentee mother, problematic relationship with stepfather, DEFINITE daddy issues, trouble with authority, law, hangs out in bars and gets into fights, etc. I suppose all of that was necessary to create some kind of ‘underdog’ image for Nu!Kirk because that’s the type of hero movie goers relate to these days? I don’t really AGREE that stripping Kirk of a good home life, being studious and hard-working is a cause to not like or relate to him, but “different timeline, different person!!” as they say.....

So how does this character’s development go? Kirk is under academic probation. Kirk gets on the enterprise by being smuggled on board. Kirk gets listened to because Captain Pike has a soft spot for him. Kirk gets promoted to 1st officer for no real good reason other than ‘omg I believe in you Jim”. Kirk is captain once he provokes Spock to an emotional compromise. That’s not really ‘earning’ the captain’s chair. And while it’s not a perfect way to captaincy, in the context of the ST:2009 it was somewhat acceptable (if you disregard that’s really not how rank works...).
You've gone through this whole movie and set of insane circumstances to get Kirk into the captain’s chair, and then overload Nu!Kirk with so many faults and insecurities that I really can’t understand why anyone would respect and follow him at all!!

In STID it’s exactly the same bullshit all over again!

Nu!Kirk and his womanizing:

I won’t even go into how making Captain Kirk out to be an asshole womanizer destroys the TOS characterization (and it does so horribly), but specifically for the reboot, this is just TERRIBLE.

Carol mentions Kirk has a “reputation”. It’s implied she heard ‘negative things’ from Christine Chapel, who is “now a nurse on a different ship/station and much happier now”, and “wow you don’t even know who I’m talking about do you?”. Then she goes and randomly starts changing her clothes and THIS IS JUST AN AWFUL SCENE FOR ME. Not only is Carol just in her underwear for not really any good reason at all, Kirk also is implied to have had some booty call he can’t remember with Nu!Nurse Chapel (?!????).  HONESTLY *WHY* was that dialogue necessary!? This doesn't lend any credibility to nu!Kirk as a character or captain, which – doesn't he already have enough weighing him down from being worthy of the captain’s chair and his crew’s respect? And if that Carol & Jim dialogue was just some crappy banter to hint to the masses that there won’t be any sexytiems between the two in the film but hay here’s her in her underwear!!1, well wow I’m sure there’s a way to do it without making Carol seem like a ‘tease’ and Jim seem like a completely unprofessional jerk. (sry I really just hated Nurse Chapel getting name dropped THIS way).

And that’s just the small personality bit. In terms of tactics and command;

Kirk evades true consequence for violation of the prime directive because Pike coddles him.

Kirk is outmaneuvered by the Klingons and Uhura has to buy them some time, wherein KHAN ultimately saves them.

Kirk is out-talked into surrender (??!?!?!!!) to Admiral Marcus, and when that fails, Scotty has to save them.

Kirk’s space jump fucks up and KHAN has to save him again by getting him back on course.

Kirk taken hostage by Khan, saved by Spock’s bait and switch torpedo.

What the hell did he do that was successful? Crawl into the warp core, re-align it, and die. This is just really sad. Beyond sad. So yes. I cry.

Kirk confides to Uhura that Spock is frustrating him because Spock keeps “second guessing him”. But KIRK is the one who really admits he doesn't know what the fuck he’s doing. He makes command decisions without any counsel thinking he’s doing the right thing by blindly following Admiral Marcus’ plans. When that blows up in his face, he admits to Spock that he believes himself to NOT be the best person in the command chair. (!!!!??!!!!!) That utterly destroyed my respect for nu!Jim as captain of the enterprise.

How can you be the captain of a ship if you don’t believe yourself worthy of the position? If he’s truly an underdog in this timeline he needs to prove he is worthy. But he never does???? He does NOT display ANY strategic thinking which succeeds, nor does he display professionalism. ALL he manages to do is put some misplaced ‘trust’ in nu!Khan to help him out in some kind of thrown together plan. This is not a leader! It’s all so careless. Pivotal moment of the film with the Enterprise orbit decaying and falling into Earth’s atmosphere, nu!Kirk managed to be one of the personnel still conscious and able-bodied to assist Scotty to engineering. Yes he makes a decision to sacrifice his life to re-align the warp core. He saved the ship yes, but at this point I don’t care?! His last action before that was to stick a seat belt on Scotty (which if they were in free-fall before entering atmosphere they should have been floating or disengaged the simulated gravity). SPOCK is the one who got to sit in the captain’s chair and give orders to abandon ship and then soak up the loyalty that the crew would rather stay. (!!!!!!!!!!!)

"In this galaxy, there's a mathematical probability of three million earth-type planets... and in all the universe, three million million galaxies like this one. And in all that, and perhaps more, only one of each of us. Don't destroy the one named Kirk."
~ McCoy's advice to Kirk | Balance of Terror (1966)

Well congrats Jar Jar Abrams. You destroyed the one named Kirk.

Btw.

Spock is not a Vulcan.

That’s not Spock.

My complaints about Nu!Spock are so vast I will not even bother right now. They’re basically the same as in my freak-out post from A WHILE BACK.

I mean there’s more I didn't like; “Khan” being marketed as a ‘terrorist’ most specifically and played out as irrationally violent, with Spock’s matching emotional violence at the end flopping HORRIBLY...

BUT even with all the character degradation going on, honestly that actually wasn't the worst part about this film.

The worst part?

Nobody. Learned. ANYTHING.

In the first reel Kirk breaks the prime directive to save Spock, and when it’s brought under official Starfleet scrutiny, he acts like he hasn't done something wrong just because no one died.  To add to this, Uhura is angry at Spock because he treated his potential death as a non-issue to the crew and people who cared whether he lived or not. BOTH Kirk and Spock needed to learn a lesson about death. This is clear.

What’s NOT clear is how they learn the lesson.

Kirk’s sacrifice to save the enterprise from crashing into Earth is really not a sacrifice at all because he’s brought back to life in a such a frenzied wrap up that the shock doesn't even linger. Kirk pretty much did EVERYTHING wrong in the film, ended up dying himself, didn't best the ‘villain’, and actually got SAVED by the ‘villain’s’ blood....... . . . . It’s all so damn meaningless...

Spock’s lesson was really unclear to me. ...What? He needed to see Kirk die to understand that the death of someone who cares for you & you care for is worth breaking regulation? I’m hesitant to give the film that much, because while Spock did immediately go after the runaway Khan, we are never shown Spock facing any sort of ramifications for a breach of protocol to make his actions seem like he was indeed ‘going against the rules for love and friendship’ and therefore learning & understanding Kirk and Uhura’s grievances after all. ... .

It bothers me to say it seems like the writers just needed Spock to see Kirk die so that their hack selves could get Spock to scream KHAAAAAAAAN dis time!!1 LOLOL. SPOCK VS KHAN! FIGHT!!!
....

I mean, the death scene COULD have been a good moment to have Spock recognise Kirk’s sacrifice as a way of passing the Kobayashi Maru (from ST:2009), AND also experience taking the test for HIMSELF and failing, instead of simply re-doing the dialogue almost exactly copy/pasted WORD for WORD from TWOK in reverse.

Kirk’s speech at the end pained me.... seriously? It came across as ‘lol we can’t let our need for revenge make us evil.’

Except Khan didn't get any kind of consequence for being ‘evil’? He got exactly what he wanted; to be put back to sleep!! PLUS all his crew he was so emo over were safe and sound too. ALL 72. But the Enterprise lost so many? Khan did not suffer for his actions at all, so there is no lesson to be learned for the ‘villain’.

Sigh the dedication frame to the troops overseas needn't have been tacked there.... Was that just in my viewing & theater?

JJ: lol we dedicate this movie (which has a self-proclaimed terrorist bombing AND a war-mongering admiral) to our troops.

That’s pretty insulting to stick on there and not have the damn movie actually HAVE A PROGRESSIVE MESSAGE about war and terrorism other than hot British dudes’ magic blood saves all!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Well, I mean, it saves all except those Klingons that were casualties of StarFleet’s internal problems lols. S’ok. LENSFLARE!!!!!11
....

Just really burnt up over this piece of crap sequel. Out of over 47 YEARS of Star Trek material to work with, in a brand new re-start universe, and THIS was what was deemed acceptable? Bloody hell.

...If you read all that and feel the intense need to reply with something to affect of “IT’S JUST A MOVIE! LOL! GIVE THEM A BREAK!”

Fuck u. I am disappointed that is what a 200+ million dollar budget shat out. The script writers, producers, and J.J. Abrams have my eternal wrath. Towards thee I roll, thou all-destroying but unconquering whale; to the last I grapple with thee; from hell’s heart I stab at thee; for hate’s sake I SPIT my last breath at thee.

FanExpo 2013 Con Report

So after 11 years of awful lines and being yelled at by security, this was the year we (glayish and I) decided to do VIP tickets.

This year the guests were AMAZING and all the panels were ones I actually wanted to attend, so the VIP ticket actually ended up being really worth it *o*. This was such a great con. NO waiting in line, excellent guests/panels, and very favorable treatment from the staff. I didn't choose to make any intense cosplay this year, although I DID bring 4 costumes. I actually finished everything a couple days before, so there was no stress there either. Maybe my only complaint is that we were in panel rooms so often, we barely had any time to try and take photos of our and other people's cosplay.

Thursday
Got into my Maid Hungary (anime version) cosplay at home, helped glayish with her Uhura hair and then packed the car up. Drove to our hotel on Queen's Quay and got there around 1pm. It was the same hotel we stayed at the year before, which had nice big rooms, although the lobby was under renovations this year. We got settled into our room around 2pm and decided to do lunch at the Japanese restaurant across from the hotel.

After that we headed over to the convention centre South building to the VIP lounge (just a room with tables, chairs, water, and a few snacks lol) to get our other VIP things which weren't shipped to us beforehand.

The first thing I pulled out of the bag was an awful huge red foam Ta'al (Vulcan Salute) hand with the words "Star Trek into Darkness" plastered on it. =_=........ rgg. Otherwise this year Lucky Charms and Franks Red Hot sauce were sponsors, so there were some goodies there. Some lithographs and exclusive comics were in the bag too, but I'm not into those so they're wasted on me lols.

Thursday didn't have any panels which I was interested in seeing... So the day ending up being a find free stuff & shop for everything day XDD

I finally got the latest volumes of Blade of the Immortal and a bunch of other things....

Like some freebies. (BEYBLADE AND HOT SAUCE!!!!)

And more Piccolo for my collection of Piccolo:

DSC_0454

I did ask the few anime DVD dealers if they had Puella Magi Madoka Magica or the Death Note live action movies, but nobody seemed to have them (at least that day).

While glayish was shopping for Star Trek t-shirts we ran into an idiot dealer who we spent at least 20 minutes in conflict with over the fact that he didn't want to sell her the Men's Small shirt when there were Women's shirts to choose from. .... -_-!!!!!!! Literally WTF.

All she did was ask if he had a Quark (Ferengi rules of acquisition) t-shirt in small, and he launched himself into some huge rant/lecture about how he had been selling t-shirts for 30 years, and that a men's small would not fit her body properly. Uh yeah? We know that? We know what fits us. ON AND ON!!!! "Oh, you've got a great body, and I'm telling you you should buy a women's instead." "If this was 10 years ago you would have only been at one of these events as someone's DATE!" "Now you're about 40% of the attendance and spend about 70% of the funds at my booth."

WTF??? First of all... we WERE at FanExpo 10 years ago, and back then the dealers didn't argue with you about what you wanted, they just took your money!! UGH this man kept pointing out the women's styles (which weren't wanted because they didn't have Quark on them). He also got another booth employee to try and show us the crappy generic red/gold/blue TOS shirts. I don't know why he was so adamant about not selling that Quark shirt to glayish!!!!!!!!?

After numerous back and forths on whether he even had the shirt in stock or not, he FINALLY went and found it. As he sold it to her he just asked "Can you sew?", to which glayish confirmed she could, and he was all "OK good."

OTL!!!! As if every damned t-shirt a woman puts on has to be form fitting/???? Anyway that was bullshit. She got the Quark t-shirt tho.

I ran into a fan of my DeviantART!

DSC_0015

After scouring through the dealers room all we could we went over to the North building to check out the autograph booths where the celebrities would be signing and to see if any of the times were set up yet. The celeb's set their own times though, and it all depended on the day they were there. Nothing was really going on, so I just bought a nice TOS Chekov & Sulu photo print in preparation of getting it signed by George Takei.

We went to check out the North building VIP lounge (same deal, just a room with tables/chairs). The North building lobby carpet was replaced with white tiles this year, so the whole area worked well as a reflector. We were able to get some good photos in there thanks to that! (Also first time not kicked out of an area for taking photos!!!! wtf)

Here's me as Maid Hungary from the small photoshoot:

After that, there wasn't much else going on in the North building so we went over to the elevators to get to the bridge level.

While using the elevator, it turns out Veronica Taylor (the voice actress of Amelia from Slayers) and her daughter(?), plus a FanExpo volunteer got into the elevator with us! O_______________O

I had made Cruise Ship!Amelia specifically to wear to this con on Saturday and get Veronica Taylor's autograph then. Baw, I was too surprised at seeing her I just hid my face in the corner while glayish told her I was a big fan of her work on Slayers. OTL

After that I was in a good mood lol. We met up with Jaymie (one of the people we stood in line with for hours at March Toronto Comic-Con to watch the ST: TNG cast Q&A).

Saw kintaei and chibik3r0 going up the escalator as we went down, Noooooo~. Later on we found them again while they were eating Chipotle in the South building cafeteria area. kintaei let me have a bite of her food *o*;;; felt very hungry for more after that.

While checking out the Car from RUSH, I met another fan of my DeviantART!

DSC_0207DSC_0203

We ended up leaving the con around 9pm (closing time) with all our purchases and headed over to Chipotle to get some food for dinner X'D. We walked back to our hotel and had late dinner while I ironed our Chekov & Sulu outfits for Friday.

Friday

glayish and I got into our Sulu & Chekov outfits that we had made back in May to watch STID. I was carrying my camera, video camera, tote bag, 2 bottles of Coke Zero, AND our space dog alien for the whole day. OTL. So heavy.

We decided to go straight to the North building to get autographs. Turns out George Takei was signing when we got there, so it was time to test out the VIP badge XD. The process was, you just saw if the celebrity was signing or not, and then went to the near-by VIP services booth where a runner would take you up the the front of the line.

We immediately got George Takei's autograph!! He said we were wearing the correct Starfleet regulation outfits and that we only needed Walter Koenig's signature now X'D. Bahaha it took so little time, no waiting in line. That was magnificent.

DSC_0457

Nichelle Nichols was not at her booth yet, so we decided to go across the street to the public underground mall/cafeteria for some Manchu Wok. On our way back from there, two ladies called us 'Spock' and asked why everyone was dressed up -_-. .. R@ge at being called Spock even while in command gold as Chekov.

We went back into the North building but Nichelle still hadn't arrived yet. Yvonne showed up and we caught up with her while waiting for various celebs to show up.

During that time I noticed Todd Haberkorn (voice actor for North Italy) had arrived at his booth to sign autographs! I whipped out my pizza prop and got the VIP runner to get me first in line!

DSC_0455

He signed the crust XD;

Todd was very nice, I think I surprised him by knowing he also plays Spock in the fan TV series "Star Trek: Continues"! Anyway I was very pleased to meet him finally. I have his autograph all over all the Hetalia prizes I've won from FUNimation, but I've never met him in person. Love his Italy voice!

After that was more waiting for Nichelle. It was getting closer to the time that a panel I wanted to see was going to start, so we all packed to leave for the South building. Of course that's when Nichelle Nichols showed up! So we got her autograph!!

DSC_0456

She was very pleasant.

Afterwards, we walked over to the South to see if we could catch the Sailor Moon 20th Anniversary panel.

When we got to the panel room for the Sailor Moon panel 40 min early, the line was LOOOOOOOONG. We asked where the VIP line was and APPARENTLY the front of the line access was only good for "main events". =_________=... That kind of lol, really pissed me off, so I asked if they could help us out at all, they said to come back in 20 min. We went down to the VIP lounge and I asked where the main office was -_-. Anyway long story short, I complained a bunch and got escorted to the panel. We got front row seats!!!!!!!!! lolll XD;;;

Anyway, the Sailor Moon panel was actually really, really good. The audience sang the dub theme song to open the panel and close the panel (including echoes and hand movements, LOL omg). The dub voice cast (Moon, Tuxedo Mask, Jupiter, Mars) were there. ALSO John Stocker was there (he directed/produced, and also did the voice of Grandpa and others), AND HE WAS WEARING A BEYBLADE T-SHIRT!!!

The questions were entertaining lol. "Will Darien please propose to Serena?". XD. Lots of feel good stuff, including the women doing their attacks in the voices and talking about what it was like recording. Very good first panel to go to. The room should have been bigger because there were still people who hadn't been let in.

After that panel, already we managed to hit a new personal record. Usually I end up only going to ONE panel (if any) per con, and it's usually not very good. (probably because I hate lines and end up watching crappy panels).

We met up with Yvonne again and wandered around the South building. We did a small photoshoot with her photographer friends and got a little bit of video.

DSC_0009aasphotography

After that, we decided to go over to the North building where George and Nichelle's panel would be held.

When we got there we were early and happened to walk into the last bit of David Hasslehoff's Q&A. It was actually pretty entertaining, even though we hadn't intended to watch it. LOL. VIP pass again was really worth it. The first 3 rows of the centre stage were all dedicated to VIP. So there was no fighting for a spot or sitting smashed up against other people.

George and Nichelle's panel started shortly after that. I thought that they would do the panel TOGETHER, but they each only took 30 minutes each. That was okay though, they each had prepared great speeches/talks on Star Trek and what it meant to be involved in Gene Roddenberry's vision. I think I prefer that to Q & A. This way you get to really hear what they wanted to say, rather than answering people's inane questions -_-!! It was enjoyable, though it did get pretty heavy when the topics turned to Japanese internment and racism.

DSC_0021

Also, Americans, pls remember that during WWII Canadians went to fight in 1939... NOT after the bombing of Pearl Harbour.

Anyway, after that, the Ian McDiarmid (Star Wars) Q & A was beginning. We stayed for that as well. I DIDN'T UNDERSTAND MUCH!! I haven't seen the recent star wars movies, and I watched the old ones WAYYYYY long ago. Also, I'm not a fan. Lol.

They had a bunch of those dark side trooper guys come out and stand in front of the stage for the WHOLE hour. I don't know why they decided to do that?? Half way through they were beginning to sag and shift uncomfortably. It was just distracting lol. And big wrinkly red picked his wedgie >_>.

DSC_0025

We got out around 7:30pm. Since Saturday was going to be all business in order to make every panel and autograph we wanted to do, we decided to make it an early night on Friday. We left the con and ate at the Japanese restaurant for dinner.

Saturday

On Saturday got dressed up in my Cruise ship!Amelia (Slayers Revolution ep. 7) cosplay. lmfao hurray for 1 episode obscure anime cosplay at a comic-con. (I must say I DID get recognized at least 5 times, so that's ok then X'D.) I helped glayish with her Uhura hair and then we headed straight to the North building for more autographs.

Once we got there Zachary Quinto and Veronica Taylor were signing! glayish went to go get her Quinto autograph (I wasn't really interested in getting Quinto's autograph. Nu!Spock is my least favourite character ever).

I got VIP services to take me straight to Veronica Taylor. The guy who was supposed to be next in the regular line got all huffy and annoyed that I was going before him, but lol. I derived some satisfaction from that XD.

Veronica Taylor was so nice!!!!!! I finally got to tell her how much I loved her work on Slayers! She took a photo with me (she takes photos with all the people who cosplay as her characters) and said she will post it on her FB page. So hopefully I'll find it on there!

I got her to sign my bracelet so I won't ever lose the signature *o*

After that we waiting around a bit trying to figure out when Karl Urban would be signing. However a sign went up that said he'd be signing after 3pm, so we had loads of time to wander over to the South building and grab some pizza for lunch. We walked around the dealer's room and got some free Dr. Pepper and Red Rain samples to drink.

The time flew pretty quickly, I don't remember much of what went on. We met up with a few other people and then had to go back to the North Building for Quinto's Q & A.

While we were seated 45 minutes before Quinto's panel, all off a sudden some other guy comes in and starts to talk. Turns out it was Todd McFarlane (of misogynist comic book fame) late for his panel. Now, I was VERY surprised we were suddenly sitting in for this guy's panel, because I had poured over the schedule and I'm absolutely CERTAIN he wasn't scheduled to be talking in that panel room. =_=

Anyway it ended, and the room FILLED to capacity for Zachary Quinto's Q&A.

FanExpo didn't have any rules against photography or filming for this one, so I whipped out the video camera and proceeded to film the whole panel. XDDD I'm glad I did. It was a LOT more entertaining than I originally thought it would be.

I uploaded the full HD video (52min) here on YouTUBE in case anyone out there is interested. (I have since deleted the 3 gigabyte file for space, so if it ever gets taken down that's it).

It started...

And the first question...

And glayish got one in there (I called out to get Zach's attention):

AND OF COURSE. THE TOTALLY INAPPROPRIATE QUESTION:

Fwahahaahha XDDDD. Those were some of my favourite questions X'D. (I made the .gif sets on my tumblr as well btw. One of them got 19K+ notes @_@!!)

Anyway after that we filtered over to Karl Urban's autograph booth to wait for him to show up. A cheer rose op in the huge crowd when he arrived. The was a small horde of VIPs waiting for his autograph, but it was again immensely satisfying to go before all the people who had been waiting for hours for him lmao. Got his autograph and to see him up close~!!

DSC_0458

There was nothing much else we had planned for the day until the masquerade, so wandered around the South building again taking in the sights.

Eventually we went back to the North building to use it for photographs:

Cruise Ship Amelia!
by ~TechnoRanma on deviantART

I love those new aqua-blue contacts I got! They stood out really well. I just won't post a bigger close up because I don't like my face... maybe if I photoshop out all the pores... but the contacts were fabulousss

The line for the masquerade was already HUGE. But as VIP we got to go in first. The doors wouldn't be open for a while though, and the pizza from earlier wasn't really enough for me, so we went outside to the food trucks so I could get some poutine.

While waiting for my poutine a guy came up to me and asked if my DeviantART screenname happened to be TechnoRanma. I said yes, and he said he was Tim from Australia!!!! OMG from Beyblade fandom!!!! SO MANY YEARS AGO! We had lost contact (as what happens when people change fandoms and LJ becomes less popular), but he was in Toronto for the month and heard about FanExpo. He bought a day pass and happened to recognize me on the street from the preview I posted on my DevART. TALK ABOUT A SMALL WORLD!! That was amazing, it was great to see him. Now to rekindle the fandom friendship on tumblr XD. <3

Returned to the masquerade line with poutine and coke, and finished that off while waiting for the show. We got in and for once got really amazing 1st pick of seats XD!

The Masquerade itself wasn't that good. Just my luck, while trying to test the settings on my camera, one of the VERY few people who recognized me as Amelia from Slayers came up and asked for my photo. Naturally I was very happy to be recognized so I spoke with him, but this guy also turned out to be.. 'THAT Guy'.... y'know the type. Urgh. There was a free seat next to me and of course he sat in it. =/.... he also happened to be one of those "lol it's a new universe so all the awful plot holes and characterizations of the reboot trek r ok cuz of that. also just sit back and enjoy."

Thankfully during that barrage one VIP girl I recognized from other panels sitting in front of me joined in the convo to explain why TOS and the original movies are superior. Lols XD

I don't know why THAT guy started touching my VIP pass that I had on my camera bag when I was distracted by Derwin Mak in his Doctor outfit, so I
accused of him of trying to steal my badge. He was more tolerable after that.

Anyway the show itself had some great acts. But the vast majority had no audio and simply screamed their lines (compared to years before when anime dominated the masq). Also, there were VERY few groups. I don't think there was one that exceeded 3 people; in fact I think there was ONLY 1 with that many putting on their skit. Mostly one-person walk-ons. In one case two separate costumes (Mass Effect, I think?) wore the exact same character and did the EXACT same skit with almost exactly the same game monologue audio. -_-;

I wasn't too impressed this year. If it hadn't been for the quality seating I probably would have tried to leave 1 hour into it.

There was also one AWFUL and UNFUNNY heckler a few seats over from me that kept shouting out insults at Gord (the M.C.). It was bloody annoying.

glayish and I left just before the very end of the show (where the announced the winners) to avoid the huge crowd.

We walked back to hotel. Exhausted, I ironed up James T. Kirk.

Sunday

PUT ON STAR TREK IV: THE VOYAGE HOME COSPLAYS!!!!

Checked out and got the car packed up, then walked over to the North Building. Got dehydrated from the walk in the hot sun in so many layers of polyfill, polyester, and wool suiting OTL. I ate some pizza and talked with some more friends, but I should have drank something to feel better. I was avoiding drinking anything because if I had to use the washroom I'd have to take everything off to get the fat suit unzipped -_-;;;;;;

Felt lousy while sitting through Nathan Fillion's panel due to dehydration. I didn't know he had such a huge fanbase but his panel room was filled to the brim. Even VIP rows were very packed. He's interesting. The only thing I really remember/watched that he was in, was Firefly.

After his panel glayish went to go get us drinks from the food trucks outside (because it was $1 outside, and $2.85 if you bought it from the inside cafeteria =_=) and I got us some better seats.

trek12

Karl Urban Q & A began!

I'm positive Karl looked directly at us while we were dressed as Kirk & Spock (Voyage Home). He got that bugged out eye look for a second and then paid attention to the question someone asking. Lol, that's enough for me.

DSC_0151

A lot of the questions were similar to the other panels we had attended. Actually early in, FanExpo asked everyone to stop recording and there would be no more filming at the panel. (???) Not sure why, but if I had to guess it'd be because Urban is starring in J.J. Abrams new tv series and jar jar prolly didn't want any 'Spoilerz' being given out accidentally >_>. There were quite a few Xena: Warrior Princess questions, so that was pleasing. Nothing that was lol-worthy like at Quinto's panel though.

After that, we hung out in the VIP lounge (North building) and got annoyed by the volunteer in there who kept asking questions. She did make herself useful by helping us get a few shots of us in Kirk & Spock (although the room was really poorly lit).

We then went for the Carrie Fischer Q & A. Ugh Star Wars. Lol. She was wearing about a pound of glitter on her face. I don't know why. Also, she was smoking while doing her panel. That was really really obnoxious to me. I don't know how they let her get away with smoking in a public building. (It's against the law in CANADA!!) >_>.

It finished and the room cleared out, and a couple people stopped us for our photo. (We didn't get our photo taken often at ALL during the weekend because of how many panels and autographs we were constantly attending).

My favourite comments I got while wearing that cosplay?

"So, you guys like Italian?"

XD

After that, the con was officially over. We walked back to the hotel (which was right on the water) and got some video as if we were walking around San Francisco looking for a pair of humpback whales.

I'M REALLY PLEASED AT HOW WELL THESE TURNED OUT! At least our silhouette's from far away I think looks great XD.

Looking at the videos, I think I could have gone bigger in the stomach with my fat suit stuffing. Also my neck is entirely too skinny in some angles, but that's not something I can fix all the time. Clenching and purposely giving myself double chin is actually pretty strenuous ^^;. Ah well, I'll know what angles work for when the Ripley's Aquarium in T.O. opens. (Hoping to get photos/video in there sometime).

I drove us home and when we got there my dad kept going on about how I looked just like him OTL!!!!!!!! Cry. I've been saying over and over how I was gonna look like him wearing Voyage Home!Kirk, and it was true (only with brown hair instead of black/white). OTLLLL. He took a photo next to me (I was unwilling), but that one will never see the internet, I hope.

Was SO EXHAUSTED. I had taken the Monday off work, and it turned out to be a great idea because I was bone tired. Hence, why I didn't get around to finishing this con report until now.

I still haven't unpacked yet either ^^;;;. Probably should get on that.

Anyway, long story short, GREAT CON!! The VIP pass was completely worth it (at least this year because of the guests), and I finished all my costumes ahead of time. I dare say this time I did the cleanest, most neat construction and sewing on my cosplay than all that came before.

Next con is probably December Toronto Comic-Con (formally known as DTAC)... and then Katsucon 2014! I'm still not entirely sure what I'll be making for those, but I have a to-do list and bunch of plans I should probably decide on soon X'D.

Still they don't beat being able to type up long diatribes like this interface.

A few eventful things have occurred since my last con report about FanExpo 2013.

Down at Dundas Square there was a Star Trek into Darkness screening with costume contest. The prize was a 50" flat screen TV, so since glayish and I had our Kirk & Spock The Voyage Home cosplays we threw them on hastily in under an hour (unheard of wtf!!) and drove in all the way over there to try and win.

BTRvPilCQAAOhSu

We got interviewed a bunch and our costumes were the only hand-made ones there and well received. Except there was a fucking CHILD in the line-up who got more applause... fuck it I'm boiling just remember the injustice. Well let's just put it out there that we did not win the TV. We did, however, go home with consolation prices of $800 worth of store credit to CinemaNow (like Netflix except crappier). So that was something at least.

Later that month, I went to TIFF (Toronto International Film Festival) with glayish. Except, we didn't have tickets for anything. We stood 8hrs against the barricade by the red carpet for the Rush movie premiere for a potential glimpse at Chris Hemsworth. Oh and glayish was wearing her Thor costume. I have to say, it was literally worse than any other kind of line/waiting experience EVER. At least it didn't rain and somehow we managed to get a good spot, but it was with some gawdawful unshowered fan girls in kigurumi & wearing stockings as pants. SIGH. WE DID GET CHRIS HEMSWORTH'S SIGNATURE THO!

1368974_10200855302079797_408415465_nBTuVZvZIYAA_ZqW

We celebrated jiyoon's birthday by going to Medival Times Dinner & Tournament. First time I've ever been. It was actually pretty fun, despite the fact a certain person being there too. The meal was a LOT of chicken. Gah was so stuffed. The actual show was pretty good. Got tossed a flower from a knight!

BW0RNlHCMAAnaGx

Attended the Silver Snail Halloween Party 2013. I basically had a crap time. But I re-wore Sailor Mars! That was a plus. Of course there was another girl wearing Sailor Mars and of course she was taller, thinner and prettier. fwahhahahah. OTL;; Oh well. I nursed a headache for most of the party due to the tight wig and tiara. Also immense foot pain. Great idea to wear that. Bah, lol. I don't think I'll go next year.

mars2BXjRMPJCAAADnUk

After that,

Thor 2: The Dark World came out!
It was GLORIOUS. Pretty much everything I wanted to happen, actually did. Thor still remains my favourite marvel movie universe story. I LOOOVE Chris Hemsworth! Saw it twice on opening weekend. Once at ScotiaBank theater in Toronto with glayish and jiyoon (and anatra).

Also, I recently watched new anime.

Attack on Titan
How frustrating was the last episode!? Ugh. Well I have to say it's well done. Gave me a bit of a Naruto vibe at first, which is why I never touched it before now. But it's actually a rather good series. Even though it's unfinished. The Titans themselves and the crazy violence is the best part.

Free! (Swimming Anime)
MY NEW FAV ANIME of the 21st century. Lol oh this show was utterly perfect. I loved every minute of it. I ship Rei x Nagisa and Mako x Haru. But obviously there's tons of Rin/Haru implications. That's not even the best part about it. The actual show & story is good and superbly put together. Which is so rare in such a genre. Anyway, highly recommend if you're like me and hadn't watched it yet.

Kill La Kill
I basically think of this as Revolutionary Girl Utena, except everything inversed. It's still in progress, so I hope it keeps up it's refreshing style. I like the fact that it involves clothing/uniforms as being super powered so there as sewing elements to the whole show. Makes me think of cosplay. Lots of humor and really fast paced. I'm enjoying it so far!

Oreimo(Ore no Imōto ga Konna ni Kawaii Wake ga Nai) (My Little Sister Can't Be This Cute)
THIS WAS AMAZING!! It's been a looooong time since I watched a harem style anime (loads of girl characters and one guy who is the love interest), but I'm glad I watched this one. It's freaking hilarious, for one thing, and it's got a whole bunch of tropes and kinks that are right up alley. Oh, and the premise of course, is a popular girl becoming an otaku and becoming obsessed with little-sister eroge (erotic content video games). It's great because she makes anime friends from online, they all go to comiket together and its generally a clashing of worlds all with great otaku girl archetypes. Oh and Bro-Sis incest.

I wouldn't mind cosplaying from one of these series. Although, it seems like a lot of the cosplayers I like have moved from anime to comics/games stuff. Which is understandable as the anime crowd is so young and obnoxious at a lot of cons, and I generally have more fun at comic/sci-fi con now, too. I don't really play video games and not many comic characters strike my fancy. I do like sci-fi, but Star Trek is actually rather difficult/expensive X'D. I'm still saving and gathering my materials to produce a copy of a Maroon Monster a la Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan.

I want to plan my convention choices to be more about quality of the programming/area these days. I was thinking about SDCC, but it's going to be pricey to get out all the way to the west coast in order to stand in line all day and not cosplay. I want to attend a con that has a good cosplay presence but also some decent guests and programming. East coast/central, something easier to get to.

Speaking of what I do have planned:

The next con coming up is December Toronto Anime Con 2013
But I'm debating on whether to go to that at all. Hobbystar puts on a shit show >_>. I do have a free pass, but I guess it'll be up to if the weather is good and I'm feeling up to going downtown and cosplaying. Also if
glayish is willing to come with. I wanted to wear Madoka again since I was unhappy with how I looked in it the first time (sleep deprived, windblown, cold and grimacing, overdone make-up, and really fucking orange for some reason).

Katsucon 2014

I'm REALLY EXCITED FOR THIS ONE!!
slayers_linanaga005tumblr_mscbzxZj631rmsnrvo1_500
I'm working on Lina Inverse (OVA) and Ranma-Chan.

Some progress shots.
linaproglinaaa
nagawristamuletsinprog2ranmaselfies

I was originally supposed to cosplay Slayers with Jelly Cosplay. But she's still not ready to, and I really wanted to work on it since I had no other plans. Chibi Tifa Cosplay had Naga on her list and decided to bump it up to join me at Katsucon. Hopefully it pans out and we can get some shots together!

I had planned Ranma-Chan alone, but izunadrop247 is going to bring back his Ranma-Kun, so boy-type and girl-type it is.

Oh yes, also somewhere in the middle of all that I gained a boyfriend. LOL;; Sounds weird to say. izunadrop247 ~! My convention friend from the past.. hmm 3 or so years? He's an American tho, so it's online until we can meet up at cons/otherwise. Works for me atm.

I made a two new SLAYERS anime music videos.

Zelgadis x Amelia - Search for the Cure (AU)

Lina Inverse x Gourry Gabriev - Wherever, Whenever

Kind of proud of them, although I want to try changing my style next time. Check out my YouTube for other new videos featuring cosplay and wig styling.

Also have a few new arts posted to My DeviantART. Although, I haven't drawn as much lately because my tablet was on the fritz. glayish totally got me an amazing new one!!! *o*

She got it for my off my Amazon Wishlist!!

So many people got me amazing things!!! I'm waiting on them to arrive. I'll make a post to thank them all and for archival purposes. <333!!! I hope everyone enjoys the gifts I got them, too. Happy Holidays!!

CON REPORT!

I dropped the ball with this report given that it's been over a week and I didn't capture any of my thoughts down in an entry until now. I'll just chalk that up to the con itself being relatively catastrophe and drama free o_0. I genuinely had a good time! Which is odd to say because I always manage to find something to expound angrily on.

I guess I can start this off by saying that I finished all my cosplays about 2 weeks early, which was a major stress relief. I think my sewing and crafting work has been some of the best I've ever done this time around. I also spent the extra money on some higher quality make-up and brushes. After the crazy amount I packed last year (lol 4 cosplays) and filled up the whole car, I only brought 2 cosplays this time.

Thursday

The last two years glayish and I did the road trip and roomed with scapegoated and EleventhPhotograph. We had fun times so we decided to make the third time a charm this year X'D. Of course this year was a horrific snow storm in Maryland area which we promptly drove into on the Thursday night. It was awful, EleventhPhotograph was hero ultimate with driving through that and scapegoated navigating X_X!!!!! The drive took 13 hours this year and was really treacherous due to the roads not being plowed.

We made it into the National Harbour and the Gaylord around 10:30pm. Everything was closed so we didn't have any dinner, although our roomies made a brave attempt at finding food. glayish and I immediately went to try and get our badges so we could avoid the Friday morning line. The pre-reg line turned out to be MASSIVE. I left glayish there to find where to get the badge my friend shampoonyanko had set up for me. I got it (so grateful!!). I had been hoping to see shampoonyanko that night, but the snow made it so everyone was delayed. I returned to the pre-reg line when glayish was almost at the front. We picked up some 18+ wristbands as well, but we never ended up using them.

We returned to the hotel room, unpacked our cosplays and attempted to iron. We were on the same floor as ChibiTifa and her roomies, so we went to go say hi to them! (Looked like death warmed over at the time, lol wow). After that totally just crashed.

Friday

Got up around 10am and started getting into cosplay. I brought Lina Inverse (OVA)!

 (gifs from my make-up test)

I'm glad I worked with the worbla & gesso on my Amazon Shampoo armor & sword last year. I knew about how long it would take me to make Lina's pauldrons, and I was more prepared with tools for sanding this time (thanks cloudsonvenus for that dremel!) It might not look like it, but I did a LOT of work on the outfit not even including the pauldrons OTL. Lots of small things added up, like airbrushing gloves and boots, airbrushing thrift belts to get rid of scratches and match colour, styling a Naga wig, sword/sheath, screwing up my earrings about 3 times... the list goes on. Gem casting turned out really nice this time though, if I do say so myself! I cast the resin clear and then painted the gem backs with sparkly/shiny nail polish. I found that helped the clarity rather than when mixing resin dye. After that I hit them with a thick layer of clear gloss spray. That made them super clear.

I rushed the sword out of impatience and frustration, so the sword hilt is the only part of this cosplay that I didn't like... It looks alright from afar and in video, but up close it's not all that great. Actually a piece of the paint job flaked off when I got home. The yellow shirt was difficult to look thin in even WITH the fact that I dieted and didn't eat before I wore it. SIGh. That is the curse of having a more or less straight figure. ALSO... My wig bags refused to stay put around my ears and so my earrings were hidden a lot of the time -_-. That and how my sword sheath disappeared in my cape were unforeseen annoyances. Otherwise I guess I'm happy with how the cosplay turned out.

ChibiTifa had Naga on her list and bumped it up to cosplay with me! I styled the wig for her to match mine.

naga

Anyway, we didn't actually get out of the room until around noon lol;... Swung by ChibiTifa's room to see if she was ready as Naga, but it turned out she was still asleep X'D... Oh well, glayish and I headed down to the atrium levels and decided to check out artist alley and the dealer's room. glayish was wearing Utena and she was supposed to have an Anthy but Anthy got snowed in and was unable to make it to the con. Met glay's friend Toki and her friends for the first time that morning. Afterwards we took solo shots of each other in the nice daylight.

lina2lina1

ChibiTifa was almost ready as Naga so we went back upstairs to get her. We looked great XDD! It's always more fun when you can have a full cosplay group or duo rather than going solo.

We hung out in the gazebo area while waiting for EleventhPhotograph to find us for our photoshoot. glayish took some video of us and Paul Karpey Photography& SmileJade Photography snapped some nice pics while we were there.

210
p karpeysmilejade

A huge group of kids on a birthday party surrounded us out of nowhere. They kept smacking my belt/wrist gems as if they were buttons. OTL. Apparently one of them touched ChibiTifa's boobs. LOL;;; We had to usher them away.

1609990_677134029009394_1825613612_n

The Gaylord had loads of signs up prohibiting "professional photography" this year. I can understand why, since in the years prior photographers would set up their huge light stands and tripods in the nicest areas and not MOVE for the entirety of the day (which really made it impossible for anyone else to get any kind of photo in there). As such, the whole hotel/con staff was vigilant in telling anyone who had a light stand/permanent set up to shut it down. -_-;

EleventhPhotograph took us to a relatively empty hallway on the convention level, and got some shots of us while glayish did some awesome external flash holding in the absence of a light stand. I can't wait to see the photos from that shoot!

Here's a preview;

1795416_578291852260331_189013540_o

We were supposed to have a second photoshoot with SF Design right after, but the con staff saw his light stand set-up and let us take a few shoots before telling us we had to stop. OTL. We re-scheduled the shoot for Saturday night instead.

By that time it was around 5pm and I hadn't eaten ANYTHING all day (plus no dinner from the crazy roadtrip the night before), so I was absolutely ready to take Lina off and find food.

We all went back up to our rooms where ChibiTifa changed out of Naga, glayish changed out of Utena and into Uhura (bar scene outfit), and I shucked off Lina and put on my Ranma Saotome outfit. Lol it so happened I decided to wear that instead of go in civilian gear because my hair was uber greasy (book Snape levels), so I needed a wig to cover that shit lmao.;;

Finally I cosplayed Ranma again! He's been my favourite character since forever. The outfit is the red army one Ranma wears in the some of the manga artwork/chapters and a couple episodes in the 3rd season of the anime. I wanted to do something other than the typical red shirt because I already made that way back when.

We all went down for dinner at the atrium sports bar & grill together. It was a good time, and the food tasted great (maybe because I was so hungry lol)!! Very pleased to try the Maryland crab dip.

After that I got to meet up with
shampoonyanko at the VIP registration booth!! As a thank you about the badge and for new Ranma 1/2 friend time I drew him some Shampoo fan art for Valentine's Day!

1896838_254327738081241_120043519_n

We parted ways with ChibiTifa and met up with Toki who was wearing her Jim Kirk (bar scene) cosplay! We went to the hotel bar where I took some video of the two of them trying to re-enact the scene from the Star Trek: 2009 movie. Turns out another girl at the bar was a trekkie (wearing the starfleet insignia pin) because she saw them at it and bought them their drinks!!

From there we wandered around the convention area and ran into a few other people we knew. I was definitely feeling the exhaustion by that point so I handed off the vid cam and went back to the room to get some rest while glayish and Toki went to the sports bar to get photos with swoz and more video.

The wifi stopped working on my phone for some stupid reason, so I just gave up and went to sleep. Which was probably a good idea because I had a 9am photoshoot on Saturday morning. Lol. Lol lol.

Saturday

Woke up at 7am and started getting my make-up and cosplay on. UGHH. What an event. I had been chosen for a free photoshoot with the Arda-Wigs.com photographer (Dewey) since I styled my Lina Inverse wig using their products, and the shoot was for 9am.

I hurried to get together while everyone else was asleep in the room. I think I woke glayish up out of R.E.M. sleep so she could buckle my shoulder pauldron harness on lol;; sorry

Part of the reason why I wanted the shoot to be so early was because there would be fewer people out and around crowding up the hotel at that hour. ORIGINALLY I had wanted photos outside, but it was pouring rain in the morning -_-; so that was out. I went around to a bunch of spots with Dewey and hopefully got some good photos o_o;;..... Rather worried that I put something on backwards or something, since I pretty much got dressed in the dark. OTL;;; Whatever. At 10am I went back to the room where glayish was taking her time getting into Uhura (STID version). I got out of Lina and put on Ranma.

r6b

We hung out in the room with scapegoated and I ordered room service for lunch, having since learned my lesson from not eating the day before. Scapegoated had planned to see some paleo food blogger friends while she was in Maryland, so our hotel room felt more empty on Saturday.

When we were ready we went down to the gazebo level and hung out while waiting for Toki (in her STID Kirk uniform). She made such a great Kirk!! And an attractive Chris Pine XD. I got a bunch of photos of them.

After that we met up with grayhour! We wandered around some more before deciding to go to lunch at a Thai restaurant in the harbour. I was still full from room service so I just had coke. (But it was so good to have coke, since the Gaylord is a pepsi hotel). The food looked pretty good though. Now that I'm sitting here typing this I wish I had it in front of me. Lol;

Anyway, after the late lunch, glayish needed more cash so we went on a very cold and miserable adventure to find an ATM. Upon getting back to the Gaylord, I wanted some photo/video of my Ranma cosplay. The crowd was at full capacity and we waited around in the fountain/creek area where I wanted some pics.

I immediately got yelled at. That put me in a foul mood of thunderous proportions. The two hotel staff had been watching while some other chick in high heels (far more dangerous on stones and water than the flats I was wearing) and some photographer took a billion photos in THE SAME SPOT, and then when I went for a few I got the lecture. The fuck is that!!!!!! My blood boils just remembering.

Angrily made way to find a spot near some bricks, which wasn't exactly what I wanted at all, but it sufficed.

ranma3ranma2

grayhour went to go put on her Bakura (YGO) cosplay and glayish, Toki and I went to check out the dealer's room and artist alley. While walking through the booths someone asked for my photo and I was shocked to see the artists' dressed as James Hunt & Niki Lauda from Rush. Shocked and excited!! We took each others photos and it turned out their booth was a motherload of Thorki porn and other fabulous arts. glayish got herself a book and a Thor body pillow. I picked up a booklet of gay slash art. Always a good thing.

Looking for some actual programming to do, we just walked right into the masquerade while the line was filing in. Got some pretty good seats. I do like how in the Katsucon masquerade the audience has a spot where they can dance and get on the big screens while the set-up is occurring. When "What does the Fox Say" started playing, all the fox people/kitsune type characters immediately rushed the floor lmao. Everyone deserted the dance floor when "Blurred Lines" came on (in a PAINFULLY visible protest), and then crowded it back up again as soon as the song ended. It was entertaining to watched.

Of course when the actual show began is when the masquerade started being ruined by the MC and the lighting crew's skit shitty running jokes.  ...They decided to have Darth Vader and some storm troopers 'take over' the 20th anniversary masquerade. It was fucking lame. (Trek for lyfe). They had a dance battle with some girls dressed as 'sexy nurses'. It was really tacky. And the nurses kept being used as bargaining chips and sexualized banter by the MC and lighting crew in between skits. Probably would have been expected 20 years ago, but it was uncomfortable to watch now. We all could hear clearly one person had had enough of it when she shouted "Women are still NOT objects" to the MC.

The actual skits and costumes were good, same old anime masq. But the best part was the "Last Minute Cosplays" zombie video/skit. HILARIOUS! Thoroughly enjoyed that one.

We didn't stay for too long, just because it was getting annoying to listen the the MC, so we ducked out.

We went up to the gazebo level to find grayhour's Yu-Gi-Oh shoot.

I met up with sapphire_hime briefly!! One day we will cosplay group again for REAL, I swear! I definitely enjoyed seeing her even if it was only for a short time.

I also found shampoonyanko, shocktress, and starlightslk! I was glad to meet them in person after admiring their work for so long! We got to hang out for a little, although sadly the photos on my camera turned out crappy due to it being nighttime.

I went to find glayish, Toki, and grayhour. The YGO shoot was over and I was ready to change into Lina for the re-scheduled photoshoot. We all all went back up to our room, where everyone read glayish's Thorki smut while I got out of Ranma and into Lina.

ChibiTifa was getting into Naga, so i went over to her room to help her a bit! Stopped back at my room so that I could put on my armor and cape and then we hit the con again.

glayish got some video of us with the jelly flashing rings I had brought.

I took some video of glayish and Toki in front of the elevators to try and simulate the turbolift scene from STID.

We split ways when glayish and Toki went to attend a panel with grayhour, while ChibiTifa and I hung out for a bit in the Gazebo level, having met up with some online friends and cosplayers. Then SF Design ran across half the hotel to lead us to where the convention had allowed him and other photographers to set up a permanent photoshoot area (in the empty registration hall).

We finally had our photoshoot with him! Oh man by that point I had stopped caring if everything looked right or not, so hopefully I don't hate the pics we get back x_X;;;....

After the photoshoot ChibiTifa went to go hang out with her roomies, so I found glayish, Toki, and grayhour at the panel rooms again. We got some late night snacks and drinks, and tried to get back into the panel, but it ended. There weren't any other good panels going on at the time so we just went back to the room and read the Thor x Loki porn we had bought earlier XD.

We parted ways after that and I finally got to wash my hair. Lol. Packed up all our bags and got into bed around 1am.

Sunday

We were up early and got out of the room with EleventhPhotograph's car packed around 10am. OTL!!!! EleventhPhotograph still had shoots on Sunday, so we split. glayish got some food from the atrium cafe (thank you for the donut), and then we went to the dealer's room for a last circuit around.

Met
Toki at the big t-shirt booth, and we all shopped.

Later on, we went to go sit in a panel room, where grayhour joined us, but the panel was pushed back another hour, so we went to locate some more snacks and do another run of the dealer's. We went back to the panel and sat in for some interesting lecture on anime and godzilla parallels.

The panel let out and we ended up saying loads of goodbyes to friends, some whom we didn't get to see during the rest of the con X'D;;

Reunited with EleventhPhotograph around 3:30pm and left Katsucon. Lol, well maybe not quite. Stood for 40min in line at Elevation Burger OTLLLLLL. Fucking hell. I didn't understand what everyone was raving about over a stupid burger, but I'll admit the burger was pretty damn good. I regret not buying like, six.

We picked up scapegoated from her friend's place and then were on our way back to Canada.

We all must have fallen asleep during the first leg of the journey, and EleventhPhotograph had to take some much needed rest at a Starbucks. The drive was long and understandably everyone was exhausted from the weekend.

We must have played "I Never" con & cosplay edition for over 2 hours. LOL;;;; The roadtrip convo was fun XD;; It's always great to enter a diatribe about Beyblade, Star Trek, and DBZ. We ended up back in Canada well past 4am, and scapegoated was amazing to let us crash at her house rather than have us wake up our parents to get us at the subway station at that time.

I can barely remember the evening actually, lol. Even with the snow and things, it was a great trip. I'm actually a little surprised since, usually after going to a con for 3 years or more, it starts to get boring and more problematic than enjoyable.

Looking forward to Anime North now!

Oh and I might not have written it here, but I was invited to be the Cosplay Guest for Anime North 2014! I suggested to the directors that it be me and glayish as a team. So we'll be getting some panel time and featured on the website and program booklet! We have to do some filming for the youtube channel for marketing purposes. Lots of great stuff abound!
